Well capitulate at Celtic PArk

Saunders v Zheng Zhi

A dreadful late second half collapse saw Motherwell lose four goals and slump to their heaviest defeat of the season.

There was little to choose between the sides in the first half, although Celtic should have been ahead after only 2 minutes but somehow Rasmussen could only shoot tamely at John Ruddy from about 6 yards out.

Motherwell created a couple of chances of their own and Ross Forbes saw his right foot shot cleared off the line by Thomson and Boruc then reacted quickly to keep out a Hateley corner which he plamed on to the post.

Aiden McGeady scored after only three minutes of the second half with a clever chip over John Ruddy and from then on it was an uphill struggle.

It did take take Celtic until the 79th minute to seal the game, when Darren O'Dea headed in a McGeady cross. Rather than sit on a 0-2 defeat Motherwell pushed forward and Saunders saw an excellent volley cleared off the line by Hinkel.

This determination to get back into the game meant Motherwell were hurt twice on the break and lost goals to Forrest and Keane in the closing two minutes.

The only positive note was the fact Hibs had lost earlier in the afternoon and we know a win against the Edinburgh side on Wednesday will clinch fourth place and a Europa Cup slot.

To achieve that will mean a real improvement in performance but with a big crowd behind them I am sure we can pull it off!
