Motherwell made it two wins in succession for the first time this season when they bounced back from the Scottish Cup defeat on Monday to see off St. Mirren with two second half goals today.
The first half was an awful specatcle with neither side finding any kind of spark as they struggled to cope with a pudding of a pitch.
The highlight of the half was a tremendous shot from John Sutton who hit a left foot volley from 30 yards that left the keeper helpless but bounced clear off the junction of cross bar and post.
The downside for Well was an injury to Lukas Jutkiewicz who was stood on by team mate John Sutton and he needed 12 stitches in gash in his thigh as he was replaced by Jamie Murphy.
Murphy opened the scoring 11 minutes after break, a Craigan free was headed into the path of the striker by John Sutton to leave Gallagher helpless.
The second came from Sutton himself, Keith Lasley beat the offside trap and picked out Sutton who turned to fire a low left foot shot past the despairing dive of Gallagher.
Well saw the game out comfortably for a well deserved three points that keeps the Well in the top six.
While it was a poor affair the win is what it was all about, and with another clean sheet this must strengthen the position of Craig Brown and Archie Knox.
