McGhee rues injuries in mid season

After yesterday's game with Kilmarnock Mark McGhee reflected on the season just finished. After the game he said, "I am satisfied we did everything we could, I think the period before Christmas when we had injuries to key players and only took 1 point from seven games that killed us, and we came within one point of making the top six with a great run from Christmas.

"We chose to have a small squad of decent quality rather than a big squad of diluted quality and you risk getting injuries, last year we got away with it and this season we didn't."

There is an element of truth in what he said BUT when you think back a few weeks if we had beaten Aberdeen and St. Mirren at home we would have made the top six.

Part of the reason we didn't was some strange team selections and on key occassions the players not being up to it.

He has a great deal to do in the summer to get the side ready for the new season, as it looks as though we will lose Graeme Smith, Stephen Hughes, Bob Malcolm, Maros Klimpl and Cillian Sheridan returning to Celtic.

This will be a real test for the manager who has yet to prove himself in the transfer market.
