Mothewell defeated local rivals Hamilton 1-0 at Fir Park this afternoon in the LAnarkshire Derby.
Accies started the game the brighter of the two sides and could've taken the lead in teh fifth minute if it hadn't been for the acrobatics of Graeme Smith. James McArthur's header was deflected by the head of Kenny Deuchar but Smith somehow managed to change direction and claw the ball away for a corner.
From the resultant corner Simon Mensing hooked the ball over his head and into the net but somehow the ref saw a hand ball that no one else in the ground saw.
Accies dominated the first half without really looking like scoring again and they were punished for this when Well took the lead just on the half time break.
Steven Hammell cut in off the left and picked out Cillian Sheridan who flicked the ball into the path of David Clarkson who took his time to pick his spot.
The second half saw Motherwell hit on the break as Accies pushed for an equaliser and Sheridan came close with an effort at the front post.
With ten minutes left we were denied a stone wall penalty when Accies keeper Tomas Cerny pulled down Paul Quinn but the ref only gave a goal kick.
This seemed to sum up the performance of the inconsistent performance of Dougie McDonald.
Thankfully we held on to win the three points and have bow drawn level with Hibs in sixth in the table three points ahead of the Accies.
