A second half David Clarkson penalty secured a point at Easter Rd this afternoon but we travelled home disappointed we hadn’t taken all three points. Derby bound Chris Porter was replaced in the side by John Sutton, which was the only change to the side from last week’s draw with Falkirk as Mark McGhee’s side looked to make it six games unbeaten. Well got off to the worst possible start as they went a goal behind in only seven minutes. Ross Chisholm chased a lost cause to the bye line before hooking a cross in for an unmarked Derek Riordan who smashed the ball past Graeme Smith from 12 yards out. For the remainder of the half Well were on the front foot without causing too many problems for the Hibs defence. The closes Well came in the first half was a Jim O’Brien shot that was well saved by Hibs keeper Szamoltulski. The second continued in the same vein as Well pushed forward, although this time they looked more like scoring. Clarkson combined with O’Brien before pulling a save from the keeper. From the resultant corner Hibs broke up field and Rosa should have done better than chip Riordan’s pass wide when clean through. The teams then swapped chances with Clarkson once again coming close and a Riordan volley being blocked by Graeme Smith. Mark McGhee made a double substitution half way through and it almost brought immediate dividends when Clarkson robbed Hogg on the bye line and picked out sub Jamie Murphy but the youngster somehow dragged his shot wide from 6 yards out, with the goal gaping. It looked as a goal would never come when once again the keeper kept us at bay, and this time it was Quinn who was the man denied after he had latched on to a long ball from Craigan. Thankfully we did get a goal in the 75th minute, Hibs sub Thicot pulled hauled Jamie Murphy to the ground in the box and after a moment’s hesitation Mike McCurry pointed to the spot. With Chris Porter having moved on it was left to David Clarkson to smash the ball up the middle to score our first penalty season. In the end we had to settle for a point but looking over the 90 minutes we should have taken all three points.
