The BBC are reporting tonight that Motherwell are looking to take English defender Byron Webster on loan for the rest of the season after being impressed during a trial spell at the club.
Motherwell are in talks with Czech second division outfit FK SIAD Most over a deal for the 21-year-old former York player, who began his career at Leeds.
Webster was reported to have had a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Most following their relegation from the top flight, but his club are seeking payment.
McGhee said this morning, "We are in the process of speaking to his club about him coming on loan until the end of the season.
"They want a fee for him and we are not in a position to pay a fee, and we don't yet know whether we are entitled to pay a fee. We are hoping to get him in."
But McGhee still fears he could lost top scorer Porter, who scored his fifth goal in four games during Sunday's 4-0 rout of Dundee United, before the transfer window shuts.
The Manager said: "There are no offers other than the inquiry from Huddersfield. But every game he plays better and therefore he becomes more attractive to someone else.
"There are still days left when someone can get their chequebook out. It does worry me, until the window closes I won't know that he is definitely going to be here."
I have also heard that our attempts to bring Don Cowie from Inverness are stalling because of the money we have offered. He has already been offered more money from a "smaller" SPL club!!
