No Everton move for Moutinho

Any hopes that Everton had about signing Sporting Lisbon captain Joao Moutinho have been dashed by the club who have plans for midfielder.

The 22-year-old is an integral part of their plans for next season, although speculation has had the player linked with Everton, Aston Villa and Liverpool in recent weeks.

Club president Jose Eduardo Bettencourt made a statement to local media saying:

"Joao is essential to our project. He is captain and we are not interested in the sale.

"Rumours are expected at this time, but Sporting have a very made a very clear decision - Moutinho is indispensable."

The Portuguese giants have yet to make a statement about Moutinho’s midfield partner Miguel Veloso who has also been linked with Everton.
