Sunderland came out on top in their preseason friendly against Tony Mowbray's Celtic this weekend. Two 'big names' have now fallen to Sunderland this preseason - Celtic and Atletico Madrid - surely Sunderland are on the up and the new season is coming fast with a new sense of optimism.
Kieran Richardson opened the scoring for Sunderland when teh black cats man pounced on a mistake by a Celtic centre back to get ckean through on the keeper.
Richardson showed great composure and slotted the ball comfortably into the bottom corner, sending the keeper the wrong way.
The second goal came from Kenwyne Jones, after some good work and a great cross from Andy Reid finding the Trinidad and Tobagan's head in the 6 yard box.
Celtic made a number of substitutions, breaking up the game, and injecting a bit of urgency into the scottish side's game, scoring to bring the match back to a 1 goal deficit.
Sunderland also brought on two new signings in Lorik Cana and Frazier Campbell, both were fairly quiet but look to be good additions to the squad.
Once again Jordan Henderson had a great game, nearly scoring a cracker, rattling a volley off the Celtic cross bar, and looks as if he is going to figure in Steve Bruce's plans this season - as he's started every pre season match so far.
Ha'way the Lads!
