Maybe I'm in a minority here, but I hope we send as few of the first XV to Toulouse. The league games are more important to us, we've too many injuries in key positions and don't need to accumulate any more in what's likely to be a losing cause.

Both sides look as strong as they can be, cant realistically see us getting much out of this game but who knows. Toulouse 39 - 19 Chiefs

We have decided to go strong selection wise, I suppose to try and make it a competitive game. Maybe get a try bp? In our favour Toulouse are short of at least 7 of their first choose starters and international players but have a very good bench.
Yeandle somehow keeps his place and Tchumbadze who made a huge difference last week is omitted from the squad, don’t get that at all unless injured?

I hope we can keep it under 50 points but that will take some doing, their half backs will play from anywhere at pace and don’t stop to pat each other on the back if they win a penalty, so we will need to be alert defensively. The difference in the quality of replacements is immense.
Toulouse 62 Chiefs 27.

Try bonus points are only being awarded to a team scoring three or more tries than their opponent, they've changed the bonus point system to that used in France. A losing side can only get a point by finishing within 7 points of the winning side's score. With that in mind, and our injury list, I don't understand this selection at all.

Hopefully no more injuries.

Thanks EF wasn’t aware of the change - very difficult to see how we can get anything from this game making, selection a bit strange.

I actually respect Baxters decision to try and compete fully in all competitions.

Clearly it may hamper our prospects in the Premiership and there is always the risk of injury, but i think that its the right thing to do for the integrity of the game and it provides good experience and creates the right mindset throughout the club.

As others have said, i dont believe that Yeandle is a positive selection any more and i also would have liked to see Chumba in the 23. But its a great opportunity for Zack Wimbush and Sam Harris to show off their obvious talent so good luck to them and ro Louie Gulley who is really making an impression.

An away win against this Toulouse team is surely a few bridgesctoo far though. I just hope that we're competitive and avoid any injuries.

Like NM pleased we are at least sending a strong team. Yenz selection baffling and I pray our line out doesn't disintegrate. Our defence out wide has been far too porous and I expect Toulouse to have plenty of quick possession. Slowing the breakdown, line speed and not missing first tackles the key to a competitive score......Toulouse 46 Chiefs 26.

I think we are in a no win situation here, send too weak of a team and you're looking at a proper thrashing, which does nothing to improve the confidence of those playing and just looks bad for the club. On the other hand we are really suffering with injuries, get any more and we'll be in serious trouble. Toulouse are missing a few including Jack W who has become one of the best back row players in the world aince moving there.
We have pulled off some great results in france over the years, do i think this will be another one, unfortunately, no. I do think it could be closer than people think.

Just seen our next opponents Bristol have gone down rhe opposite route to us feilding a very under strength side for their trip to South Africa. Whilst i do understand it completely, it really makes a mockery of the competition. I'm not blaming Bristo,l as playing an away game on the other side of the world, in between a paiir of prem fixtures is crazy. In a season thats so fractured having a schedule like that is crazy. It does however make them strond favourites for next Saturday,.

The differing salary caps for England, France, and Ireland do enough to make a mockery of the competition long before you look at the team selections.

Yep.
I do hope we haven't taken our eye off the ball with sending such a strong team to France?
As Exeter fan suggests, the thought that we can compete with the French or Leinster over a long season is tilting at windmills at the moment.
I would rather we concentrate on the league personally as last season showed that is a realistic goal.
A well rested Bristol at home to a battle weary Exeter coming off yet another short turnaround makes next weekend a bit harder and we will be 4 games down in to an 18 game season.
I would play our strongest team in home EC matches without question but not necessarily in away matches

Think we will more than likely be on the losing side on Sunday, while it’s admirable to put out an reasonable strength side, it may well have been better to do what we did last season v Racing and give prime match experience to some of the fringe players.
That said anything can happen as we saw earlier tonight with Glaws fighting UBB for a well deserved draw!

We did win the competition a few years ago with similar salary caps in place. Really we just have Toulouse and BB that are so much better and properly going for it in this comp. Leinster are nothing special now, and without such a favourable draw they wouldn't have made it to the final ladt year.
I'd say the inclusion of South African teams and the stupid format do more to make a mockery of the competition. I'd also argue too many teams qualify. The teams that finish below fifth in any league should not be playing in a champions cup.
You are right about next week though ZH, we will have an uphill task and like you say are likely to be four gsmes into 18 with only one win!

Long season? most people on other threads are asking for at least 4 more games in the prem if not 8. 3 games into a season and players need a rest, how could we have more games in the league?

We always managed 4 more games when there was 12 sides.
Don't remember that caused any problems.

Top14 with greater amounts of travelling 'seem' to manage without any conflicts,
I think they play throughout the 6 Nations,. Surely that is a great opportunity for the other squad players, that many of us, AND PARTICULARLY THEM, want to see being given greater meaningful opportunities.

Pro D2 have SIXTEEN teams who play ALL the sides at Home & Away, AND have play-offs at the end of the season!

As Philip said "its doable".

When there was 12 sides we also still had league games during the Autumn and Six Nations international fixtures. We had a deeper squad of players and had to make use of it. Where now the first XV seems to be used at every opportunity (hopefully we'll see that change in this years Prem Cup), the fringe players would get PC and a few league appearances whcih helped them to improve, gain trust, and stake a claim for a place. We've now a smaller squad, and fringe players getting less game time, so perhaps aren't in as good a place to manage as before?

Some chiefs players may not even get a single meaningful match over the entire season. We need more fixtures not fewer.
