It is rumoured tonight HMRC are playing hardball with Rangers over a £2.8 million debt.
Initially the story was that theGlasgowclub’s bank account had been frozen as part of the dispute but it appears this is now untrue.
Charles Paterson of Sky Sports News has used his twitter account to give his side of things, “HMRC have outlined next steps that can be taken, these include freezing assets followed by a winding up order.
“RFC feel HMRC are “being unduly aggressive in their negotiations”. Club also angry info is being leaked once again.”
This is only a matter of weeks after Sheriff Officer’s visited Ibrox to serve papers on the club.
This all seems very strange the day after Rangers have turned down an alleged £9 million bid for Jelavic. If the Bank had still been in charge of things at Ibrox there is no doubt the transfer would have gone through and the tax bill settled.
This story has also had Celtic’s Chief Executive Peter Lawell to have a go at his old rivals by saying they had a “£29 million bid for Gary Hooper….”
These latest stories must be ringing bells for the Rangers fans who had doubts about how much money new owner Craig Whyte had to put into the club.
After promising anything between £5 million and £15 million to spend in the Transfer Window, the spend would appear to be much less than this.
Not what you would expect from one ofScotland’s oldest insitutions….
