Motherwell go back top, Inverness secure first win.

Motherwell’s emphatic win at East End Park put them back top of the table, while Inverness won at home at Kilmarnock.

Motherwell bounced back from their defeat by Rangers last Sunday to hand out a footballing lesson to the previously unbeatenDunfermline.

The visitors were coasting 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Higdon and Murphy, and could easily have been further ahead against a poorDunfermlineside who gave them far too much time and space. The only real chance they created was a Hateley fee kick which hit the post before being cleared.

The game looked over when Humphrey made it 3-0 but somehowDunfermlinewere given a spark by a couple of substitutions and two deflected goals credited to Joe Cardle gave Motherwell the jitters their performance didn’t deserve.

A fourth goal in stoppage time, a second for Higdon, put a fairer reflection on the score line.

Dunfermlinewere taught a harsh lesson by a slick moving Motherwell side, and will have to learn quickly or they will be down at the bottom before you know it. On the other hand if Motherwell can keep their squad fit they have a great chance of another top six finish and maybe a push for a European place.

Up in the Highlands Inverness won their first game of the season to end an alarming slide at the start of the season, and put an end to the belief they had made too many changes and were certainties for relegation.

It was an excellent win given the wayKilmarnockhad been playing this season and the plaudits they have picked up for their style of play.

In the Tayside derby United and St. Johnstone drew 3-3 with the Arabs coming back from 3-1 down to snatch a point thanks to a late Gavin Gunning goal.

The feature of the game was Sandaza keeping his promise not to celebrate if he scored in the game. In the end he had to show restraint twice in the game as his double helped his new side go two up.
