It’s been a busy week in Scottish football, pre-season games are underway and Rangers actually sign someone!!
Celtic and Rangers have both played their first pre-season games while on tour. Celtic lost to Central Coast Mariners and then immediately complained about not being given two penalties and then their fans tried to get on the pitch! Some things never change.
Rangers travelled to Germany and played a lower League side Sportfreunde Lotte and also lost 1-0, with Davie Weir captaining the side despite not having signed a contract yet!
It wasn’t all bad for the Champions as they did manage to sign a player this week, when they snapped up Juan Manuel Ortiz from Spanish club Almeria. The midfielder obviously didn’t realise that there are better deals elsewhere in Europe rather than sign for the Ibrox club.
Aberdeen lost in Germany as well going down 2-1 to Bochum, a week after fielding three trialists in a win over Brechin. As he did with Motherwell last season Brown hasn’t taken his interest in anyone of them any further.
Hibs seem to be in some form of mini crisis, they lost 2-1 to Livingston on Tuesday and still don’t know the future of their Manager Colin Calderwood. It would appear Birmingham and Nottingham Forest still want him as their assistant.
Motherwell played their first game on Tuesday and managed to beat Morton 3-2 despite playing two different sides in the game.
Not much can be read into pre-season games but I am sure the media will do their best over the next two weeks to extrapolate pre-season results across the rest of the season!!
