A single goal by Wayne Rooney's young cousin, Tom Rooney, was enough to defeat Chester reserves at Macclesfield's Moss Rose, which was watched by Ian Rush. The blues second string were out today at Macclesfield looking to follow up on the 5-1 defeat of local rivals Wrexham last week. It wasn't going to be easy though. Macclesfield had already defeated Chester when they visited the Deva, and lie third in the Pontins Holiday League, only behind Manchester United and Blackpool.
Chester lined up with 5 players who were in the squad on Easter Monday in the 16-strong squad,but were undone on 68 minutes courtesy of Tommy Rooney. A free-kick from Stephen Brackenbridge floated in to Rooney who had a simple job, unmarked from just 6-yards out, to tap in past Brookfield in the Chester goal.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are set to leave the Pontins League in search of better competition after they look to have sealed 1st place, providing they keep their 3 point advantage over Blackpool with two games remaining.

Chester's last two games are against Stockport and Burnley. They have taken 21 points from 18 games, and lie in seventh position (above Wrexham!).
