Sylvain Distin has finally completed his £4 million move to City today as old rumours concerning Massimo Maccarone and Niclas Anelka both resurfaced.

Distin signs 4 year deal

Sylvain Distin finally completed his £4 million move to City today. Distin, who spent most of last season on loan at Newcastle, is believed to have signed a 4 year contract with the blues.

Distin is seen as a straight replacement in the left sided central defensive position for Stuart Pearce.

The signing is Kevin Keegan’s third defensive signing in a week and is thought to put in doubt the Maine Road futures of Lucien Mettomo and Paul Ritchie, as Keegan looks to clear out some of his large squad.

Maccarone linked again

Italian sources are reporting that Italian U21 star, Massimo Maccarone, is once more interesting City. Reports in the Italian media suggest that Kevin Keegan will watch the forward in tonight’s U21 international against England.

Last time Maccarone played against the English U21’s he scored Italy’s goal in a 1-1 draw. He also won the penalty for the senior side the following evening as Italy went on to win that game 2-1.

If City continue to show interest in Maccarone they are likely to face challenges for his signature from Chelsea as well as the Italian big boys.

Anelka rumour resurfaces

Reports today suggest that Liverpool have rejected the option to make Niclas Anelka’s loan deal permanent. Maybe it is a case of putting 2 and 2 together to make 5 but with Liverpool out of the equation it is strongly believed that City will move in with a bid of their own.

To complete this sort of deal would cost City around £12 million before wages and with Anelka’s reputation added to that it may well be nothing more than idle gossip.

Unlucky Mettomo

Lucien Mettomo scored an own goal as Cameroon went down 2-1 to Denmark in Copenhagen on Friday night.

Mettomo netted on 20 minutes to give the Danes a 1-0 lead, a goal that would have brought more pleasure to his club team mate, Niclas Jensen, than his International colleagues.

There was good news for Mettomo however, he has been included in the Cameroon final 23 for the World Cup Finals.
