World Cup Blues

City are expected to have five players competing for the various nations at the tournament.

Niclas Jensen and Richard Dunne have both had their places confirmed as Denmark and the Republic of Ireland announced their squads. Lucien Mettomo and Sun Jihai are expected to be announced in the Cameroon and Chinese squads in the next few days.

That leaves us with Paulo Wanchope. Despite missing most of the season through a troublesome knee injury, Paulo is expected to be fit to represent Costa Rica in the tournament. He went to America towards the end of the domestic season and was told that there was no need for any further operations on his knee. Since then he has been working on his fitness with his target being Costa Rica’s opening fixture. If Paulo makes it he will probably be the City player who makes the most impact on the tournament, especially if he repeats the form he showed in the last Copa America.

So it’s good luck England but keep your eyes on Costa Rica, Ireland, Denmark, Cameroon and China for the blue interest over the summer.

It is now confirmed that Mettomo and Wanchope have been selected in their respective squads for the World Cup.

Ireland trip cancelled

The club were apparently unaware that the tour clashed with an Irish domestic cup competition, but immediately cancelled it upon finding out.

No replacement fixtures have been announced.
