Today's Manchester City transfer speculation links the club with a £10 million move for Empoli forward, Massimo Maccarone. The 22 year old Italian is set to leave Empoli in the summer, City are rumoured to be interested.

Maccarone recently appeared for both the Italian 1st and under 21 sides in successive nights against England, scoring for the under 21's and winning the penalty that gave the national team victory. Maccarone looks set for a very bright future and although City may well be in the bidding it is likely they will come up against some high class opposition for his signature both in England and Italy. Whether Maccarone is a genuine link or not remains to be seen, there is no doubt though that this is the type of player the club wants to be linked with. It certainly is a vast improvement on the Mirror's Paul Ince revelation yesterday, a link that has been ruled out by City chairman, David Bernstein. Thank god for that. |
