City started the game nervously, a knock on affect from failing to win in the last 2 games, and Forest looked the more comfortable side for the opening half hour. Despite dominating with their neat football, Forest failed to create anything of note in the final third, their attack looking distinctly light weight. As the half wore on, City sensed that they were far superior than the opposition and started to play a bit. The opening goal arrived on 40 minutes, Horlock playing a delightful ball for Huckerby to run onto and finish with the smartest of half volleys, not bad for a poor finisher. Goal number 2 wasn't far away. The board had just gone up to display 1 minute of injury time when Prutton sold Ward in the Forest goal short with a poor backpass, Huckerby reacted quickest, collected the ball and waited for Ward to commit before neatly slotting the ball home to give City a 2 goal, half time cushion.

City came out in the second with their tails high and played the type of football that we have come to expect this season. Chances came and went as City dominated. Bernabia controlled the midfield, whilst Sun had an impressive full debut at right wing back. The Goat was still failing to fire and missed several half chances before being replaced by Macken. Macken himself could probably have had a hat-trick but for some fine goalkeeping by Ward. The third goal that City deserved arrived in the 84th minute when Jensen was brought down in the area for a City penalty. Despite Bernabia grabbing the ball, Huckerby took the penalty and made a rather better fist of it than the last time he took one, sending the keeper the wrong way to complete a deserved second hat-trick of the season. Forest offered nothing more than 2 attempts on Nash's goal and couldn't have any complaints about the result

With both Wolves and WBA winning, 3 points today was vital. The team delivered to maintain their 5 point lead at the top. City now go to Wolves on Monday looking for the win that will surely seal promotion and the title. Come on you Blues.
