A poor City performance resulted in a 1-0 win for Aston Villa in last nights Premiership fixture. Darius Vassell scored the only goal of the game in the second half. Kevin Keegan went on to call his teams display as "brain dead".

Villa 1 City 0

A lacklustre City performance resulted in Aston Villa’s first win and first goal of the season at Villa Park last night.

Kevin Keegan resisted the temptation to tinker with Saturday’s winning team and started with the same eleven that had beaten Newcastle.

The first half was a scrappy affair with very few clear cut chances for either side. Anelka hit the bar before the break and Crouch had a shot saved by Schmeichel

The second half belonged to Villa with only Schmeichel standing between them and a larger defeat and it came as no surprise when Villa took the lead mid way through the second half when Darius Vassell scored.

Kevin Keegan was not surprisingly annoyed with the team’s performance saying that the blues got what they deserved from the game, nothing. He went on to describe the performance as brain dead and singled out Bernabia, Berkovic, Wright-Phillips and Huckerby as having not performed up to the standards expected of them. He did exempt Schmeichel and the defence from criticism however.

Keegan will be looking to get things back on track on Saturday when Everton visit Maine Road, a win is a must with Arsenal to come after that.
