Both Jon Macken and Shaun Goater are set to play for the reserves tonight in the opening Premiership reserve game of the season. The second string blues entertain Bradford and both Macken and Goater will be looking to prove their fitness after recent injuries.

Shaun Goater and Jon Macken are set to play for the reserves tonight in a bid to prove their fitness for the start of the season.

The news will come as good news to Kevin Keegan who was facing having only two fully fit strikers for the trip to Leeds on Saturday, Nicolas Anelka and Darren Huckerby.

Macken is expected to be declared fit for the weekend if he comes through his run out in tonight’s Premiership reserve fixture against Bradford, the Goat is thought to need perhaps a week or so more than Macken having missed pre season training.
