It has been confirmed today that Stan Ternent will be given a testimonial. Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he will be hoping to send a team shortly before the new season kicks off in August. Stan Ternent will be given a testimonial as a thank you from the club for the 10 years service he has given the club as both a player and a manager.

Naturally Ternent is delighted with the news and had this to say "It's a magnificent gesture. I'm still not sure of the details myself, but I am really hopeful something can be sorted. The chairman, Barry Kilby, assured me he is keen to get this on since I qualify for a testimonial, having a 10-year association with Burnley, first as a player and then as manager. It's marvellous of Sir Alex to agree to bring a team across, but that's as far as we have got at the moment."

Ferguson, who was shocked by the boards decision not to renew Stan's contract, has said that he would like to play the Clarets the Friday before the season starts in August.

Dave Edmundson told the LET..."This still has to be firmed up by a committee set up by Stan himself and we still have to come up with some dates for a game in which Stan will benefit But I would like to think this is indicative of the way Stan left Burnley. He was not kicked out of the club - his contract was simply not renewed - and this shows the way we have acted to honour him."

The game, which would certainly sell out, will come as a boost to many fans who are still devasted by the club's decision in failing to renew his contract. Quite where this leaves Paul Weller and his proposed testimonial is anyone's guess, the midfielder is now out of contract, and won't be resolved until a new manager is appointed, although he has expressed a desire to stay at the club.
