Wrexham defender Brian Carey is doubtful for the second division match of the day at Bristol City on Saturday.

Brian, know as the 'Cork Stopper' missed the 1-0 victory over Barnsley because of a hamstring injury and today physio Mel Pejic said to the Evening Leader: “It’s looking like he’s going to be doubtful for Saturday. We’re going to do some work with him outside this morning - but it’s not looking good.”
 

Carey’s hamstring tightened up during training and despite treatment he was forced to miss out on the Barnsley game. Teenager Craig Morgan, who deputised for him, is now likely to be thrown into the cauldron of Ashton Gate.

Bristol City play away at Grimsby Town tonight and have won their last nine games on the trot. Wrexham manager Denis Smith, who was once in charge at Ashton Gate, said today: “They are the in-form side in our division. Nine wins on the bounce. . . that’s some going and obviously it’s going to be a difficult one for us.
“But they won’t think we are going to be easy to beat. Our away record is as good as anything in the league so it’s going to be an interesting game.”
 

Right wing star Carlos Edwards is now in Trinidad where tomorrow he plays for his country against a star-studded Brazilian side. Smith said: “He got away okay on Sunday and it’s fingers crossed now that he doesn’t get injured. We need him at Bristol and he is due back with us on Thursday.”

Smith will not be at Grimsby tonight to run the rule over City. He said: “I’ve got a good man up there who did some work for me while I was at Sunderland. He’s going to cover the game for me because I’m probably going to the Bangor City-Newi Cefn Druids game. We’ve got two lads in the Bangor side, goalkeeper Danny Evans and defender Jimmy McNulty.”

Denis has also revealed Wrexham will make a near-500 mile round trip for Tuesday’s re-arranged game at Bournemouth. Wrexham went overnight there last month only to have the game postponed because of a waterlogged pitch the next day.
Smith said: “Tuesday’s game is a 7.45 p.m. kick-off and the lads want to go there and back on the day. I agree with them on that because if we went overnight again it would make the Tuesday a hell of a long day, waiting for kick-off to come around.”
Meanwhile Bournemouth boss Sean O’Driscoll has dismissed speculation that Gordon Strachan is to help out with coaching with the Cherries.

Also, Wrexham under-19s beat local rivals Chester City 5-1 after being one goal behind. Chester were down to 10 men after striker Danny Ventre was sent off in the second-half.
Steve Weaver, director of the Centre of Excellence, said: “Chester were the better side in the first-half. But Joey Jones had a word with the lads at half-time and within 10 minutes we were 3-1 up.” Wrexham scorers were Jamie Reed (2), Mark Duffy (2) and Simon Spender.
