Chapman set for Boston move

Grimsby utility player Ben Chapman is set to sign for Football League new boys Boston United following Grimsby's decision not to offer him a new contract. The 23-year-old came through the Blundell Park youth system and made a major contribution last season and establishing himself as a first team player. Chapman played in 5 different positions last season (Centre back, Left Back, Right Back, Left Wing-back and Central Midfield) last season for the Mariners.

Last season Chapman became a fans favourite with the Mariners faithful thanks to his 110% effort and never-say-die attitude.

However the lack of funds at Grimsby is clear and Chapman now looks set to join Boston. At Boston he will join up with former team-mate Daryl Clare who joined Boston on a free from Grimsby last summer and was top-scorer in the Conference.

Boston boss Steve Evans was cleary delighted with his capture.

Ben has a good pedigree at first division level and I think he will be a player of exactly the calibre we need".

Boston are rumoured to be also interested in Grimsby's Danny Butterfield who is also out of contract.

  • Dave Smith has signed a 1 year deal with Swansea after the Mariners did not offer him a new deal.
