Wimbledon winger Gareth Ainsworth looks set to snub a move to the Premier League and return to Preston. Midlands duo Birmingham and West Brom were both keen to sign Ainsworth but the midfielder opted for the team that gave him his professional chance.

Preston signed Ainsworth from Northwich Victoria in the early 90's and Ainsworth spent the final 3 months of last season on-loan at Deepdale.

Ainsworth's affection for Preston was clearly the main factor.

"I had offers to play in the Premiership but Preston has always been my club and my heart has always been there".
