Kinnear sets his sights on James

Joe Kinnear is chasing Gillingham's Kevin James as he looks to bring him to the City Ground on a free-transfer. Work that transfer market magic, Kinnear- although I can't say I've seen much of James he sounds a decent prospect.

Joe Kinnear has set his sites on yet another former top-flight player, Kevin James. The 24-year-old Gillingham player who began his carrer at Charlton will be available on a Bosman free transfer. And Hessenthailer told the media why such a quality player was not signing a new contract:

Hessenthaler said: "He was offered a two-year deal and it was quite reasonable, but his agent and the club were miles apart on the figures.

"The money he was looking for was just ludicrous.

"I don't think Kevin has proved himself yet. He is a young lad and has potential but that is not the same thing as being a proven talent."

Hopefully, though his wages should not prove too much of a problem for us with Doughty willing to splash out this summer. Maybe that was just Andy being tight?
