Just what are the Fat Bloke 7’s?
For a number of months now there have been loads of messages on this board about the Fat Bloke 7’s. This is the weekend of the tournament and so I thought I would let you all know what it’s all about just in case you have been wondering.
Started by a group of London Irish supporters a number of years ago, this is the fifth year of Worcester Wobblers ‘action’.
FB7’s as its name implies is a Seven a Side Rugby Tournament but with a big difference. At the top end despite the tournament name standards are quite high with National Division sides performing under a nom-de-plume so that their coach does not find out. The rugby is good but the partying is better. At the bottom end I would like to say that the standards are also quite high if a tad slower. Unfortunately I can’t. Do the names of our opposition this weekend give you a clue?

A few of my personal highlights over the past four years will give you a taste of FB7’s.

- A rolling maul starting with fourteen players and finishing with a hundred and fourteen that went across one pitch, the length of two pitches and finished with a try on the clubhouse steps.
- A malfunctioning lineout that was over come by the use of a stepladder and then combatted by a mini-trampoline.
- Each pre-match presentation, including the ref, where rough scrumpy presented by gorgeous daisy maids has to be downed in one.

- The new law that for every try the opposition score you bring on two extra players. At last we scored a try with twenty one of our players on the pitch.
- The Wobblers Haka to the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme.

- The Army Vets are not from the Vetinary Corps but a fit Army side of 35-40 year olds (possibly hearsay).
- Repeating his scoring feat year after year when by dexterity of foot and strength of arm he manages to avoid tackle after tackle to dive over and score.
I invite others to share their best moments with you.
The Seven’s are on a Saturday, a charity match is on the Sunday. The camping on Friday and Saturday is an epic, from late drinks at the Land Rovers Return in the early years. To Al-Fresco’s 'mal de mer' from eating half cooked sausages at two in the morning.
Are Worcester the biggest party animals? Perhaps. The thirty eight tents, twenty seven wobblers, sixteen wobblerettes (ladies), plus all our glorious supporters is our tally this year. Amazing!See you at Abbey Rugby Club, Reading this weekend or book your time off next year. You will never regret it. A glorious (weather permitting) weekend. Bring it on. Oh and yes we have won two trophies!

Ah, yes - the FB7s.
Two personal favourite moments from the inaugural Sunday charity game.
I was asked to captain a period of the game for the LI Barbarians against the Bristol PROPS side and we were, not to put too fine a point on it, being stuffed. After about the fifth try in 10 minutes our referee (Mr Ashley Rowden, GP ref and also posts as Clive Norling-The First) came across to me and the rest of the lads huffing and puffing under the posts to point out that he had told the Brizzlers that only the front 5 could score from now on. I turned to our guys and said "Right lads, if you see any of the girls with the ball ignore them, just hit the big lumps" to which Ashley responded "Only if they have the ball!".
"I didn't say that, sir!" was my response quickly followed by Ash's "Now this is proper rugby. Better than that Premiership s**t!"
My other favourite is captured on video somewhere. Ashley was trying to let the game flow a bit by ignoring the less extravagant of the failures to control the ball. After a succession of these had made the game look more like volleyball than rugby he collapsed on the floor and sat laughing hysterically trying desparately to blow his whistle - with no success whatsoever!
Few sights can compare with that of a red-faced, tear-stained Premiership referee with a fit of the giggles, I assure you!
Roll on this weekend and yet more tales to tell.

Being in the circle for the first 15-a-side match having a minutes silence for Jack - 45 of the ugliest and scariest looking men I've ever known all with tears.
Large (from Sarries) with kebab in both hands looking at his beer and wondering how to carry two kebabs and one beer with only two hands - the look of cerebral struggle on his face was epic.

Playing rugby with god-only-knows-who at around 3AM with a glow in the dark ball.

I still managed to dislocate my pinky in that match butthead plus you lot wouldn't let me count it as a rugby injury

my fav moment was coaching the wobbler ladies and watching them get to the semis with a team that was put together half an hour before the game
For me it is just the comradery not just between team mates but between entire teams, sharing players (against the army twice thanks for that Hywel
) and being one half of the worlds two slowest wingers with young Cheffy

Just got back from Malvern with several dozen bottles of Gold to donate to the cause - and I am a Plastic Paddy!
Staying up late, stumbling around trying to avoid guide ropes.....have cornbeef sarnies made by a random.
Hywell saying 'early to bed tonight, long day tomorrow'..... but then tackle practice at 4am with Hywell leading the session.
Every year, new people....more fun.

You have to like a tournament where my two year old son scored a try against the Arabian Knights and they put a clip of it up on YouTube.
I'm sure if he ever makes it to a national side (he qualifies for four by citizenship, parenthood and residency) that clip'll come back to haunt him!

My favourite was being made to feel part of the 'Worcester Clan' the second I arrived last year, having only met TVM once before, and nobody else!!
Along with everything else everyone's said above! Can't wait!
PS - the cheque I promised to send hasn't been cos I can't find my chequebook, so I'll bring enough cash, honest!!

FB memories... so many! some the best were (in random order as I recall a few)...
1) wandering through the campsite (or should that be stumbling/tripping through the campsite) with LBF and JonW in the wee hours, long after most of the Wobblers had retired to their tents to listen to a certain Mr R. Cummings, who doesn't want to be named, snoring for England (as well as GB, Europe, The World and Universe too). We ended up in The Fairies encampment where we undertook a conversation with Mr Weeble... while all 4 of us were stood on top of a rather large mole hill/mound.
After around minutes of me repeatedly stumbling backwards off this hilltop, I decided I didn't want to talk anymore and stumbled off somewhere else (I know not where).
2) Brizzle Pasty Eaters... for everything they've ever done at this event, they had me in stitches many times. 100% top marks to them.
3) My brief appearance on the pitch for The Wobblers... in the aforementioned game where we got 21 on the pitch I accidentally found myself staring at the back of a ruck which, by sheer numbers alone we were going to win, and realising that the moment I grabbed the ball I was going to get hurt. At this point I decided to go and hide on outside wing (a new position) ready to recieve a pass from MagicJ (should the ball ever get that far).
4) The ref (as previously mentioned) who unfortunately got to referee 4 out of 5 of the pasty eaters games and had to down 4 pints of evil nasty pasty cider. Poor bloke! Rumour has it he had to leae his car and get a taxi home? Is that right? In fact.. ALL the refs what give up there time to make it a damn fine weekend with all their dodgy decisions. (Expecially that Ashley bloke!)
5) A late night flag-stealing session (I was awake and only witnessed the event as I was doing a 2am Wobbler BBQ at the time) where flags were "borrowed" for a few hours led to some fun as the booty was loaded onto a big flagpole for a photo-shoot. The lightweights of Glaws and Leeds flags were easily snaffled, as was Brizz's (completely cidered out that lot!), but resistance was met at the Fez Boys camp where we were allowed to stel their flag as long as they got it back in a few hours.
So many memories, the best ones are those that are not allowed to be posted here due to the "What goes on FBs, STAYS on FBs" rule... well, mostly that rule applies!
To those that ain't tried it and like a rugby-style party (and don't expect the campsite to be quiet at 10pm).. give it a go, you might regret it or otherwise have one of the best damn weekends of your life.

Half time, DW put Wobblers tops under their DW tops. The second half starts, the ball is passed to Captain Wasp (the token salad eater on our side), the call of 99 goes out.
DWs take off their DW tops and the Wobblers score a try to put the DWs out of the pool and into the bar.

That was a slightly startling occurance actually...
Was always a pleasure to swap with the Captain and have a run out for you boys, sad that you weren't coming this year!

Just a reminder to all. Can you please bring your pale blue Wobblers shirt along to the FB7's. We have one heck of a Wobblerettes squad and need playing shirts otherwise they are going to have to keep changing their tops at the side of the pitch.
