When I think of teams that play with a front 3 all out attacking option there is only Liverpool that I can think of who successfully do/did it without a real creative force in midfield.
Take the great Barcelona team for example. They would not have been the same without amnestying Inniesta in there making it work for them or a Xavi creating space.

They also had Messi who would come deep and run at players taking them away from their targets.

We desperately need someone doing that, and we just don't have anyone even close. Arteta is trying to get it out of Ozil, but it's years of laziness and managerial neglect that's meaning he'll never fire on all cylinders again.

I also desperately miss the running and directness of Alexis Sanchez.
Younghan, all good points, but you need to acknowledge that midfielders will not always directly get assists. Their job is to "open" up defenses. It is not possible for the midfielders to always get the final "assist". E. G the throughball to the fullback and he squares the ball to someone in the center or one of the wingers, they do the same to square or cut back to a midfielders.

Our two forwards just look for one single person in the box when they are looking to pay the final ball ignoring others in much battery positions.

We need a much better midfield to make us flat track bullys again, but we need the cancerous selfishness to go from this team to go any higher than 5/6.
