Waasland-Beveren have announced that the Belgian Arbitration Court for Sport has today overruled their relegation, describing it as "unreasonable" and overturning the league's rule change that made it happen.

This was the only remaining legal ruling Beveren were waiting on. I'm pretty sure it's legally binding upon the league but I don't know if the league can now appeal it.

Either way, this is a big boost for Hearts/Partick...and potentially us!

While we know that fairness has little to do with anything, if they have a relegation overturned despite voting to not play on and being 2 points from safety then surely there's massive hope for us.

They have annulled all decisions made by the Belgium FA - the consequences are currently not clear, it’s possible that they play with 18 clubs next year and not 16.
The 150 pages of the report are being studied

Ah OK. I've already seen one press report describe it a 'small victory', another as a 'thunderbolt'! Guess we'll soon find out.

Cue Martin Samuel and Talksport ..
Essentially you can't terminate a season and "guess" or "vote" how the final outcome at the end will be when the full round of matches, everybody playing each other home and away, is completed.

... and so the first domino in the stack falls.

The Belgian FL/FA attempt to rush out next seasons fixtures has obviously proven counter-productive and did not wash with the courts, quite the reverse, they have taken a very dim view.

We hope the Courts will treat with similar contempt the attitude by the EFL(or those "representing" the EFL) in rushing through the play-offs, instructing EFL1 and 2 teams sitting in 6th and 7th positions with 10 games to go to start preparing for play-offs a week before the "vote".

Now it looks as if there may be a good chance of success maybe Johnson or Santini will now offer to underwrite our legal costs should we not be successful.

There is a whole rosta of damming evidence against the EFL that Nicola and Mark can now call on, particularly if they can really now get the press/media stoked up behind them - starting with Martin Samuel in the Mail and Adrian Durham at Talksport. The rest will follow.

The SFL and EFL will know these cases will ultimately end up in the same European Court - which we are still bound by - with the same people that decided on the Belgium case. Exciting times.

In N&M we trust.

Before 23rd July there won’t be a decision in Belgium of how next season will be, the chance the season will start on 7th Aug is very small ( 14 days notice is needed for the general meeting so if today = 23rd July for meeting )

Would the “get out clause” of the EFL be that the Belgian FA instigated relegation rather than here where the league members did their self preservation vote?

It might be a difference but I'm not sure it's a get out. The self preservation vote adds unfair prejudice to the legal mix.

I dont think so. The lawyers are no fools and will see through the EFLs ploy straight away. It will make matters worse for the EFL.

I believe one factor in yesterday's Belgian ruling was the inconsistency between not allowing Beveren to play their last match while allowing the playoff to decide who replaces them to go ahead. We can relate to that alright.

Apparently three possible outcomes at the league meeting this afternoon:
1) the league has to review and revise the reasons for its May decision. Doing so may still result in the same outcome, so don't get your hopes up yet!
2) play the last match - unlikely.
3) quash the relegation and run with one or two extra teams in the top flight in 20/21 - an outcome the league has rejected previously.

Reports are emerging that the league has decided on 1 and will now put it to a vote of the clubs to ratify it.

The EFL seem pretty confident there decision is untouchable due to the processes enacted when you read there media releases for the reason that the clubs voted on not only there option but there was a consultation period and opportunity to put forward other options including Tranmeres which were all considered and voted on. Unless paperwork hasn’t been properly completed I personally don’t see how we can go at it other than to say it wasn’t fair that the other clubs didn’t vote for our proposal after considering it.

You can find more than I, I can only see that there is a general meeting planned on 23 July

The pro league has received the legal papers and the lawyers are analyzing, after a constructive view of thoughts the management made a detailed note in preparation for the board of commissioners.
Monday will be further discussions and a general meeting has been set up

groan. Isnt this just going around in circles, exactly what was said before. What a waste of everybodys time. I vote we just sod it and get on with getting a good manager, a team, some good sponsorship and set about the business of league 2 stability and promotion.
