Connor has been a good player for us over the last few years or so, but this season a number of fans have suggested that he is struggling at this level. Is it time to drop Connor ? Is he now a luxury ? If he was dropped who would replace him and in what formation ?

It's not just jennings. There are a few in our squad who are not up to this level of football .but it is what it is mm and mp will not go over the budget and pay out stupid money .so we can only hope they will get better and learn to adapt to league one .its gonna be a long hard season and think on showing so far this season we will be in a religation struggle and just hope we can get enough points to keep us up .but throwing silly money about and getting the club in debt is not the answer in the long run .we are a club who have to live within our means that way there will always be a tranmere rovers .and not end up like bury and a few more who are in so much debt there in danger on going out of business .we are what we are and we must just except it

It’ll all be part of the transition, like Gary says not breaking the bank. Think this may be his last season as a full starter unless he has a blinding 2nd half to the season and we’ll see someone else come in when the moneys available.

Said to a friend yesterday that he is playing a very fine line in that the balls he is playing, if they came off, would be great balls- only nothing is coming off for him. Obviously a step up in opposition reading balls better. Quite a few of our players, although trying hard seem to be lacking “next level intelligence” and i dont mean they are thick by that!

Love Connor Jennings .,agree with UptonRover ,things are not working for him because now it’s better opposition, the pass he is going to make is spotted and snuffed out in this League ,he still works hard but nothing working for him at the moment ,just hope he overcomes it

Some pleayers were always going to be lightweight at times at this level. Tranmere did not have the budget last season to buy players good enough to see them top 10 in league one by october, but the main prority this season was arguably survival and if certain playes are just about good enough to help that happen, they are a valid part of the objective.

One acid test will be who is replaced in the summer, if and hopefully it will survival happens and the budget is bolstered a bit by new money from abroad, allowing costlier replacements.

In the case of a player like Jennings for example, even if Mellon's budget allowed for another £1,000 a week to be spent on players next season, would he give a player like Jennings another £500 - £1,000 a week, or just bring in someone costing £1,000 a week more than him and leave on his current offering?

That would tell Jennings his real value to someone like Mellon, when spending went up.

Same with Everton, when that ex arsenal guy arrived to top up the budgeting. Certain players like Baines, Stones and Lukaku looked ripe for a pay day, but certain others not so much.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Sorry to all the above but I thought Connor was terrific on Saturday. Not least his last ditch tackle in front of the Borough Road which earned him a yellow card in spite of being much less of a foul than the one on Rushian. Connor suffers from being Micky's go anywhere player, he has to fit into any formation. He gives his all and for me is a League 1 player

There are lots of issues with Connor at the moment.

The first thing to recognise is that constant changes in midfield can’t be helping his game. He’s also not been able to replicate the understanding he had with Nors because we haven’t had a settled forward line. I would still look to him to be one of the first names on the team sheet.

It’s odd how some people are ready to criticise him as being out of his depth. I think he is out of form and missing the quality he had in front of him last season.

Think you might have hit the naiil on the head there zint mm does seem to use home as a utility player on left on right up front and yes we all miss nor's maybe when we get our injury problems sorted and get a more settled side he will find the form he showed last season .but whatever anyone says about him you can't fault his work rate and effort he puts in every game he plays .

There are lots of quotes on different threads stating survival is the aim, who has actually said this? Pailios has said he sees the club as solid lg1 however thats boy an immediate goal and It might be the club are happy to get relegated this season and simply hope we stay up in the knowledge should we go down we will likely have another positive season and come back in a stronger position to have a go at league 1 with the next promotion hence why the likes of Connor are still here.

+1

Connor for me is our talisman, he will play anywhere and give his all.
He epitomises what we are are about.

Yes I agree, things aren’t coming off for him atm, but I think that is partly down to familiarity, mentioned above also.

He’s got 4 goals so far this season, roughly a third through the season - there won’t be o many midfielders with a better goal return.
So if he carry’s on, that could work out roughly 12 goals from him - not a bad return.

For me, he always plays - if not for his goal in May, we could of found ourselves battling in league 2, for years to come.

🎼Oooo we oo, we got Connor Jennings🎼

A midfielder getting 12 a season is more than a decent return for most clubs even those looking for a top 6 finish.

Tranmere had another Jennings not that long back and he was holding the play up often, which was his thing, but you'd have to wait ages for him to get a goal, then he'd bag a 25 yarder.

Look at Palmer the Wednesday player on loan. Too good and expensive for Tranmere now, but on loan he played well in front of Gibson, however I don't think he ever scored, apart from one chalked off for offside, but Tranmere still got a top half finish.

He is a talisman for us, as Steg said. He'll always have a role to play even at this level but it's hard to see him starting every game if we ever get anything like a fully-fit midfield.

He isn’t as classy as Morris but he does have an extremely high work rate and an explosive quality, that no other current Rover has. He doesn’t pass as well as Banks or Danns, but I think he’s got a few years as a solid league 1 player.
