I was out there in 2001 doing a tour as part of KFOR, stunningly beautiful country, that’s where I saw Beckhams free kick against Greece .

On the subject of behavior, absolute mayhem in HK this weekend with these latest protests at the HK poly/uni..I live only a 5 min walk from there..today the streets are closed in the area, road blockades put up, the streets are strewn with bricks and all sorts of debris, pavements ripped up by the protesters to get slabs of concrete and bricks to throw at the police, fires have been started, many shops n restaurants in the vicinity closed down, protesters hurling bricks, Molotov cocktails and all sorts at the police, been using bows and arrows. all sorts , ITS MAYHEM.. its been going on for over 5 months now..we had the Chinese PLA ( Peoples Liberation Army ) The Mainland Army, out on the streets in a massive clean up operation to clean up the streets of all the debris and bricks etc.. the last few weeks have seen the police firing tear gas and rubber bullets and now live rounds at the protesters, people being killed, a bloke had his ear bitten off, another guy was doused in petrol and set on fire, bows n arrows, molotov cocktails and all sorts..Many people, protesters and police injured..They are not protests anymore, it has degenerated into mass violence and vandalism and Anti-China slogans and graffiti plastered all over the city, many Mainland run businesses, shops, banks and restaurants etc have been targeted and vandalized, transportation severely disrupted, trouble and clashes widespread across many different areas of the territory...its been a Summer of absolute CHAOS.

I usually assume that the reality on the ground is usually not as bad as the media makes out, having lived in cities that were supposedly "on fire" at the time (Cairo during bouts of protest & terrorist activity, Paris during the riots).
But in this case my colleagues living in HK tell me that ordinary daily life is getting more and more difficult now, and I've seen some eye-popping photos on people's phones.
Keep safe over there HKR - it's a nasty business and it doesn't look like it's going to get better any time soon..

Nicely tucked away in my little flat away from all this chaos, just poured myself a large scotch on the rocks and listening to Alvin Lee and Ten Years After's classic 1970 psychedelic blues rock album, ' Cricklewood Green,' now submerged into track No 3 titled, ' 50,000 miles beneath my brain'... great track to sail away to and completely forget about the world...

Blimey HKR.... that's sounds even worse than Tower Hamlets.

Never mind the People's Liberation Army, I'm surprised the Chinese authorities haven't called in the Millwall Bushwackers. Stay safe.

I bet that tour in 2001 DanSWA was no picnic watched a lot of tv coverage and documentaries about that horrible nasty conflict ,you had to stand there and watch bad things happen because you were peacekeepers only ,i remember a soldier a couple of years after the war talking about it and he told the programme how they entered a village to check on things and a family invited them in ,they had a daughter about 5years of age and she took to this young soldier lad ,sitting with him showing him different things she had ,the girl waving ,as they drove off ,next day the house was burnt to the ground and the whole family had been shot Simply for talking to soldiers who could not even fight for them ,then the concentration camps ,people mainly men just skeletons behind the bars ,all the young women taken away for what purpose you can have a good guess at ,so we’ll done for that one

Cheers 50, the main atrocities happened in 1999/2000. It was a lot calmer when I got there, more of a hearts and minds mission, the countryside is stunning however when you look at a beautiful lake and woodland with the knowledge there’s multiple corpses in it kind of take the edge off it!
