Passed away earlier this week, age 84.
Before my time but I believe he was a left winger who played over 100 games for us in the early 1960s.
RIP

He played most games on the right wing and on his day could be a handful, He had a good understanding with Barry Dyson and briefly Dave Hickson. Always gave us all but was edged out by the arrival of Ken Finney who was a model of consistency

Another old Rovers boy has passed away, Johnny Wheeler at the age of 91..played 101 games for Rovers after the war from 1946 to 1951. He then went on to make a lot of appearances for Bolton then Liverpool and finished his career at New Brighton.

Wheeler played for Bolton in the classic 1953 Matthews final and his cousin was Liverpool legend Ronnie Moran.

I saw him play in the first couple of seasons that I watchd Rovers as a child but was too young to really appreciate his skills. What I do recall however was him being the first player that I had seen playing for Rovers that went onto get a England cap about five years later.I listened to the game on the radio just to hear how often he was mentioned
