on Tuesday night- we play Salford city in the leasing.com trophy for the first time in our entire history. the winner of the match will be group winners and will have a home draw in the first knock out stage of the competition. we will also be playing against possibly 3 ex Tranmere rovers players in liam Hogan, louis maynard and jake jervis. it will be interesting to see if micky sticks with the first team or changes things slightly. Salford city have begun life in league 2 not bad - and I just wonder if any of the 5 Manchester united legends who own it will turn up at prenton park . I will go for 1-0 to Tranmere.

The game and the competition are irrelevant. Salford City are simply the vehicle for United old boys to make a few bob. The trophy itself has been ruined by allowing U-21 teams in from Premier League clubs. The fat bloated wealthy would rather stick kids in the reserves and buy in players from abroad than give the same lads a chance of first team footie.

Wild horses wouldn’t drag me to this game. I will continue my boycott

Like it or not, there is money in this competition down the line, so I’m sure the board will be looking for us to progress. Although this match doesn’t really have much ridding on it, other than a home tie.

This.

I don't have a problem with this competition though it's obviously not top priority.
Can't imagine there'll be many there. I see Coventry's attendance was under 400 and Burton got just over 200 for their last matches!

Don't much care for Salford though I doubt the United boys are in it to make money - quite the opposite imho. Incidentally their regular admission prices are by far the cheapest in the EFL...£10 for adults I believe.

The competition is fairy irrelevant, but I think the game is useful. Now we have selection choices it's a good chance for squad players to get a runout, the likes of Borthwick-Jackson, Maddox etc and maybe even one or two of the first-year pros.

For this, I'll certainly be watching on iFollow even though I'm not too bothered with the result.

I won't be there but that isn't because of the nature of the competition. We are playing. It's a first team match. Usually I would be there, the team and the club need our support

Some of us go week in week out, regardless of the comp. I’m one of them and I’ll be there tomorrow. Probably why I complain so much.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really want to go, but it gets me out the house.😁

Every chance of I piece of silverware in the cabinet is a good thing we not going up this year were not gonna win the fact or league cup so yes why not .and I like going to Wembley to see the whites there .so bring it on stuff that horrible little club Salford can't bloody stand them with that bunch of halfwits running them .

It is a genuine chance of silverware. Excluding play offs i think we've only won two pro cups in our entire history.
The introduction of U23 sides has devalued it to a degree but the early rounds of this comp were never a big draw anyway.
As for the Salford, no problem with them me. Football people putting their money into a club.

Surprised we have put out as strong a team as we have if I am honest. Only Pilling of the youngsters starting and only Walker- Rice and Jones (where has Passant gone??) on the bench...
Back 4 with Ray back in and CBJ starting. Potter back in midfield and Maddox finally on the pitch for us. Ferrier and Payne up front...

Sorry, but the players should hold their heads in shame at this performance. We have paid our hard earned cash and they don't seem to give a sh1te. Sorry but seen my @#$%& with this.

Tricky one isnt it, you would hope they would be bothered BUT other than Pilling who had anything to gain? Realistically Pilling wont be getting a regular game anyway. We were through anyway, Ferrier needs fitness so had a run out. Jennings is playing like a sulky teenager anyway, Ray appears to have been put out of favor (thankfully) so why should he try, CBJ cant get a game so again he isnt bothered, Maddox again uses it for fitness/match sharpness. Were through just away not round

Were the team told to just get the game done and out of the way, while avoiding any injuries, cos the result was pretty poor regardless of us getting through anyway.

So we play a north group winner and the majority of the group winners except blackpool and accrington are Premier League kids sides so potentially a winnable match?

Yes, it was a tough watch, but it was clearly an opportunity for some of the second string players to get a run out. Thought Borthwick-Jackson did okay, Pilling had a reasonable game and Maddox showed some potential. Some of the more senior players looked a little under-par. Think their keeper made two easy saves in the game, both coming in the second half, and we never really looked like scoring. Ah well, the real stuff starts again on Sunday with part 2 of the Wycombe trilogy. I wonder if Akinfenwa will have grown any since part 1 😀

Did Ferrier or Payne get any service tonight ? and did they look like League 1 strikers ?

Payne was completely anonymous, probably touched the ball twice. Ferrier hustled and bustled without creating anything and he was well managed by their defenders. I guess a neutral wouldn't be able to tell they play in a higher division than Salford on that showing. To be fair though, the service to them was sparse, with Ferrier always picking the ball up with his back to the defenders which made it tough for him. I guess Mickey's statement highlighted by Loyden can't be argued with on that showing.

Bit of a mad game at Cheltenham last night...eight goals in the first half...

We had what I’d say was 4-5 first team regular players last night. Ferrier looked out of shape, but for me he has yet to prove he can make it at this level. He went from non league to 1st and was part of a relegation team, doesn’t look good on CV. Payne just isn’t good enough. Connor had a stinker again, defensively we were all over the place, not sure who you would blame for that. Capris also garbage last night, he couldn’t even control a ball passed to him, don’t know why.

I really don’t know what went wrong, other than the couldn’t be bothered, they certainly didn’t look like they were playing for a place.

First goal was strange; took a deflection on it's way and the linesman (keep it traditional!) flagged it offside. Initially the ref disallowed the goal then, after a pause, walked over to speak with the linesman, then gave the goal. (Wher'e's VAR when you need it 😀). Anyone heard an explanation? Second goal was poor defending with three defenders to pick up one man on the "back post", but they all decided to get drawn to the front post leaving an unmarked player in acres of space to nod in the cross.

I ended up sitting in the Kop for the second half. In total, the was 8 people in the Kop. Overall, it was a very lackadaisical performance. If I were MM, I'd have thrown multiple pairs of football boots at players heads post match.

I had to make the very difficult decision as to whether to go to the game or go to the Philamonic to watch Adam and the Ants. I obviously made the right decision and thoroughly enjoyed the concert. I clearly missed nothing at PP.
Does anyone know the official attendance!?

Interesting comments from Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe regarding the Leasing.com trophy, with him saying that EFL clubs should be able to opt out of the competition if they want to, his comments can be seen on the BBC footy website...In other news, Leyton Orient have sacked their new boss after only 29 days in charge.

Yes he was pretty brutal - can't recall when he was last so dismissive/ scathing in his replies - clearly unimpressed with a lot of performances.... looks like Maddox and CBJ he is very disappointed with. Also said Pilling did "ok" - so obviously doesn't rate him as for many he was MOM.
