This thread is not meant to be taken too seriously, but maybe we should have gone in for Bolt to join us as our new striker, lol, we certainly wouldn't have been short on pace up front that's for sure. Too late now, coz he has joined up with Australian A-League side, Central Coast Mariners but only for 'an indefinite training period' and no guarantee of being able to sign a professional contract with the club. He has previously trained with Borussia Dortmund and Norwegian side Stromsgodset but this Australian offer looks the closest and most realistic chance the 31 yr old Bolt will ever get to achieving his dream of playing football at a professional level.. Apparently, he is a striker that gets into good spaces but whose heading ability is poor..Not too sure if this Australian thing is a big publicity stunt or are they being deadly serious?, but they've told him there is a lot of hard work ahead.. Am not too sure what to make of some of these sports stars that have excelled in one sport and then try their hand at another later in their career. Who can remember about 5 years ago with England cricket all rounder Andrew 'freddie' Flintoff going into boxing.. It was a complete farce and just one big circus show.. He had one fight and never boxed again.. A 4th rate 'has been' boxing opponent was flown over from the States to fight Freddie in Manchester and even though Flintoff won the bout by a points decision, the American took it easy on him, lol.. It was all a bit of a joke really.. I remember seeing that Flintoff fight and saying to myself, ' Freddie you are a great all round test cricketer but a boxer u certainly aren't mate.' I was surprised that the boxing authorities had given him a licence to box...Anyway, if Rovers were to take an almighty gamble in signing Bolt up then one thing that could be said is that he might not bag any goals but we would certainly have some electrifying pace up front, lol.

It would certainly be interesting to see someone with his pace put on for the last ten minutes against a tiring defence, but the question is whether he has any real ball control. Could he actually score when through? Given the trouble he's had finding a club, I'm guessing the answer is no and, although he might just shade McNulty for pace, he wouldn't get past him.

I have spent a lot of time around track and field, I’ve seen him play, He has a good touch, good enough to play professionally, possibly, there’s not a player on earth gonna get anywhere near him for pace, he isn’t also extremely strong, much more so than a footballer, Can they convert that raw speed, strength and ability to kick a ball into some kind of ability to read the game, who knows.

This kind of thing isn’t unheard of to be honest, one or two “aquanitances” have been approached in the past for various similar reasons, noteably Dwain Chambers who was at Bradford Bulls for a while with a view to converting him to a RL player, never worked out. Alan Condon managed to successfully bridge the gap from Track sprinting to Bobsled. Christian Malcolm was on Chelsea’s books before he committed to life as a sprinter.

Dennis Compton I think played football and cricket, Stephen Fry's grandfather CB Fry was an athlete and I think footballer and cricketer too and good at all three.

Ian Botham's son Liam transitioned fairly well from cricket to rugby, whereas Ian transitioned back and forth between cricket and football, first with Yeovil in the late 70's, then Scunthorpe about 5-6 years later and played a smattering of games for both, but never got close to a full season under his belt.

Nicky Byrne made an unsuccessful transition from being a goalkeeper with Leeds to a music industry star. I say unsuccessful because despite the sales that group had, they were still frigging dreadful and an embarrassment to proper music (Sm7).

Bolt might do a number at league 2, but perhaps he should set his sights on a midfield dynamo rather than a striker is reports of his heading capabilities should be believed.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
