English football will be suspended until at least 30 April because of the continued spread of coronavirus.
The Football Association has also agreed that the current season can be "extended indefinitely" beyond the original end date of 1 June.

Cant see anything happening before end of May at the earliest, if lucky

- until Wenger moves on, they'll always be the also-rans in the major competitions. A club in elite purgatory. Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Until he changes, Arsenal fans will continue to celebrate glorious failure.

Agreed.

This will have to be reviewed again in time.
They like us haven't a clue when this will all end.
One thing I hope doesn't happen is finishing the season off behind closed doors.
But it probably will.

This virus is not set to peak until at least June, I'd say August at the very earliest.

I hope we have a proper new season after all this.
After finishing this season (if we do) footballers aren't going to get the time off and transfers will have to be done somehow.
Especially if we want an August start.

Our leagues are still in a little bit of denial about what is going on. The possible return dates are almost like singing to keep our spirits up, but I think the general public find that kind of insulting," says Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt.

Football is still in denial over the coronavirus pandemic and plans to complete the season by June 30 are insulting to the general public.

That was Oliver Holt's frank assessment of the clamour in football to end the 2019/20 season at a time when the UK and its health service are bracing for the full force of the coronavirus pandemic.

"All the best medical advice suggests we are going to see an explosion of these cases, and the agonies that is going to bring, so to talk about players reporting back for training around that time is absurd.

"Footballers don't exist in a vacuum, they are humans too, they have families and older relatives, they need to be safe. We think they are immune from these things because of the money they earn but they are not, they have the same concerns as the rest of us.

"There is an element of people trying to keep up their morale here but, in reality, these ideas of playing behind closed doors in a few weeks' time are not going to happen. The timeframes we are looking at are several months until there is a chance of football coming back."

"The possible return dates are almost like singing to keep our spirits up, but I think the general public find that kind of insulting. People's minds - even those who view and love sport as an escape - are not on football, they don't want to think about football coming back yet.

"This is moving so fast. We are getting to grips with and realising we are at the beginning of this, not anywhere near the end and things are going to get worse. Pretty soon football is going to have to stop giving these dates and accept that this is going to be a long hiatus."

'Wishful thinking of October return'

"The Prime Minister has said we are two or three weeks behind Italy, who had 800 deaths on Saturday. We are staring into an absolutely horrific situation.

"I admire what the football authorities are trying do in trying to get this season completed, they are right to do that, but the idea that football can go back by June 30 is so ambitious - you cannot put a date on this.

"What football has to focus on now is making sure the NHS gets all the support it needs. The idea of playing behind closed doors when all the emergency crews are going to be needed by an overwhelmed NHS is wrong.

"You cannot have an ambulance waiting outside a football ground in case someone breaks their leg when the NHS are dealing with a crisis.

"We shouldn't be thinking about kicking a ball again. It will happen, life will return to normal, but it could easily be six months."

Arsenal have cancelled plans to resume training on Tuesday, telling players to remain at home because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The men's first-team squad were due back in training this week after completing their 14-day self-isolation period following head coach Mikel Arteta testing positive for the virus.

Arteta's diagnosis earlier this month led to the postponement of Arsenal's Premier League match against Brighton, scheduled for March 14, before the rest of England's top-flight fixtures were suspended, originally until April 4 and then extended to April 30.

Arsenal said in a statement: "Our men's first-team players were scheduled to return to training on Tuesday after completing 14 days isolation following Mikel Arteta's positive diagnosis for the virus.

"As a result of the current situation we are clear it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to ask players to come back at this time. Therefore our men's first team, women and academy players are all remaining at home.

Indeed how could such wantwits have seen that.
Behind closed doors is not an option either, apparently footballers refusing to leave home to train.
It is believed that clubs are thinking of giving their players their holidays now so that they can restart in June. Restart here means training. Slightly more intelligent.

No promotion = No relegation

Europa:

League standings graphed alongside Cup Performance for Europa x a week or so of Play Offs or something.

CL:

Club Brugge could be crowned Belgian champions early after the Jupiler Pro League's board of directors recommended the season should be ended early because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The recommendation, made on Thursday, still needs to be endorsed at a general assembly meeting on April 15.

Liverpool will be given the title similarly. While i dont like Liverpool winning and Var has been their 12th man, it's better than city, United and Chelsea winning it.
