Can Arteta solve our goal-shy midfielders?

A long time since a midfielder scored.

Why we are in such dire straits are simply these 2 issues:

#1 - lack of goals from midfielders;

#2 - lack of defensive solidity and shielding Back-4 as a compact unit.

Goals?
Baffling none of the midfielders had been scoring for months.
Neither are they taking pot-shots at goals, say, at least 10+ attempts per game and get at least 50% on target.

Defensive solidity?
Still a problem with all of them poor defensively and unable to communicate and integrate with Back-4 into one compact shield.

One saving point is tracking back more often:
Arteta is getting even Ozil to track back and Ceballos is excellent at harassing and tracking back but both of them are lightweight and easily brushed aside by Newcastle burly wingers and Newcastle forwards bursting through the middle.

What is lacking is a physical and intimidating midfielder like Vieira or Petit or Gilberto that can imposed themselves on opponents and dictate the tempo and command the middle.
If we are to challenge for Top-4 and to have a decent run to knock-out stage in CL Cup, we need that imposing midfielder next season.
And change the tactical setup to ensure one of the attacking midfielders is a 10+ goal scorer per season.

Ozil got a goal against Newcastle. So might see more coming from our midfield.

If our midfielders keep getting into the way of lacas/auba s passes to each other like ozil did yesterday, it will be solved overnight.
