Good news Pepe starts and Laca doesn't!

Re: Team news and Newcastle match thread.
Gunnersingh1 16 February, 2020 15:44
I don't know what's strange about that team?

Everyone has been going on about our lack of ball playing CM's and Celballos can offer that.

Laca deserves dropping and Mustafi has played ok since his error in the first half against Chelsea.

Pepe and Ozil need to perform.
Else it's 9 against eleven.
No Martinelli putting a shift in either.

What do you mean 9 vs 11, such hyperbole. Pepe may not do much defensively but he's always a threat attacking wise. Whether drawing more than one men to him or just generally creating chances from set pieces and open play.

Ozil on the other hand can go missing all game........

Nketiah through the middle is the biggest story. It shows what Arteta thinks of Aubameyang 's build up and hold up play, such is absolutely shocking anyway.

He tried guendouzi and now ceballos which tells me Artwta is trying different partnerships to see which will work. He isn't convinced about Torreira because of his physical limitations and of course against sides that sit deep.

Newcastle aren't a high press team so Arteta is expecting them to give us most of the ball and he is going for a win by picking an all out attacking line up.

Martinelli down the right didn't really work last time and I think Nketiah makes better runs in the channel because he has slightly more experience. Martinelli is best played through the left and then through the middle and he will anyway come on in the second half and will probably start against olympiakos.

Why do you think ozil doesn't get the space? Even he is always heavily marked. Which is why saka and Aubameyang get so much space on the left.

Aubameyang s passing again unbelievably bad. Broke down most of our attacks. Pepe was free far post when he decided to cut onto the weather foot and shoot. Need to take xhska or ceballos off and bring Torreira. Newcastle have been a threat purely because both xhaka and Ceballos are backing off and soaking instead of putting pressure on the outball line Torreira does.

Ozil the best player on the pitch by a mile.

Re: Team news and Newcastle match thread.

We have to accept we're a very poor team just slightly above the 5 or 6 teams that will be fighting relegation.

Need to focus on Europa and start preparing for next season. Being out of Europe next year might do us good if we cant win Europa.

Every single player bar ozil finding it difficult to find space when Newcastle have 11 men behind the ball. Saka is the second best as using the ball. Ceballos has been ok and is moving the ball quickly but complete liability on the cost attacks. The rest have been ordinary.

Re: Team news and Newcastle match thread.
Willy 16 February, 2020 17:22
Ozil has looked quite good. I’d like to see Laca on fairly quickly as we need a bit more of a link-up. Aubameyang on the left is a massive problem, what with him and the unpredictable Pepe there is little chance of Ozil getting smart one-touch going. Should be playing one striker only once we have Nelson back

GS look at auba's lay offs, passes, decisions so far. If you put him through the middle against a team with 11 men inside their own half and a back 5, he won't get a single touch on the ball.

He has been the worst player on the pitxh alongside mustafi and understandably Nketiah.

Playing Aubameyang through the middle against a deep defense is like playing walcott through the middle.

Re: Team news and Newcastle match thread.
CazOnARola 16 February, 2020 17:29
When Aubameyang was found by ozil in acres on space and decided to take the shot after first cutting in his for and then his left, he should have looked at pepe on the far right in acres of spaces.

If he just plays a square ball using his right after already cutting in on the right instead of going back on the left, it's an easy finish for pepe.

If Lacazette is in the same position as Pepe, i very Aubameyang tries to square the ball.

If Lacazette makes the run that Nketiah made, i bet auba crosses in for Lacazette header and still ignores pepe.

Since Lacazette isn't on, he expectedly decided to shoot.

This has been going on for months, which is why nobody else can score.

Auba and ozil are fantastic players of you have quality all over the pitch. They do one thing and they do those very well.

But the rebuild job that we have on our hands requires multiple skills.

Our midfield is so slow at getting the ball to the forwards that u absolutely need players in the final third to create their own chances.

Ceballos has been great at finding ozil, much better than Torreira.

This combination will work against teams who just wants to sit deep and defend with 11.

We need a player like Ceballos who can defend like Torreira or vice versa.

Great play from lacca. Ozil has been playing decently well, but u need players to pass to him when he is in the half space.

He isn't a dribbler like Jack who will create his own space.

If we don't pass the ball quickly between the lines like Ceballos did today, ozil will be completely ineffective.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that when game was even in the first half and Newcastle had 11 men behind the ball, ozil was the only one who found any space.

We lack balance in midfield. No matter who we play at CM we are either short physically, defensively, keeping possession under pressure or passing between the lines quickly.

There is no quick fix for this. Add to that our best nos 9 and the player of the season last year has been going through a shocking run of form

Nope, 2nd half we were very good.

If that was very good good help us.

Probably 20 minutes to the end we had proper control.
Boston u gotta look at the personnel on the pitch and see if they are playing to potential. Today almost everyone played to their potential.

Except Nketiah, Bellerin, mustafi and leno, i think everybody played close to their full potential.

The lack of control you are referring to comes from a lack of a midfield partnership that can do all the things needed at this level.. Defend/Attack/Keep ball/Recycle quickly.

We don't have the personnel in this team to do it no matter which two players we pick. Torreira is the closest but he too doesn't get into great receiving positions and doesn't pass forward as well as Dani for today.. Dani and Xhaka of course got skinned many times with ppl going past them easily.

So we have no options but to tweak as per the situation /opposition.

At home against low lying defenses, this is the way to go and arteta got it right from the first min.

He should have subbed off ceballos earlier after we got 2-0 goals.

I know I criticize auba, but it's only because ppl keep blaming pepe/ozil/etc for our lack of creativity but forget that most of our attacks break down /slow down because of miss placed passes /choosing the worst option / wrong weight on the ball from auba/laca.

All in all, until we invest significantly, this is the best we can do.

We are arsenal not liverpool. Don't go by the club brand. We have some decent individual players but we are a @#$%& team. Our understanding levels between team mates is probably the worst in the league, worse than norwich.

We are 10th because of individually we have better players who pull the team through individual contributions.

Only now do we see an assemblance of a team structure.

They are still not on the same wavelength and we are playing like it's still pre season, barring the fitness which is obvious better than pre season.

We played with two CMs who are extremely poor at winning the ball back and lack mobility over 2/3 yards to snuff out attacks.

If doesn't matter who u play in the epl, this is absolute basic and is needed in every team. You cannot have CMs that can be bypassed directly by opposing players through direct running without having to use any tricky passing combinations. It's a walk in the park with Ceballos and Xhaka at CM.

But we had to take that risk because all other combinations make the team suffer offensively.

Newcastle were on the same number of points as us at the start of the match. A win against any team is good at the moment and to win 4 nil with 4 different scorers. Woohoo!

Well said, after our horrendous form all season. You'd think fans will just be pleased to get a nice confidence boosting win under their belts. But nah, we still got to moan.

We will have plenty of legit reasons to moan rest of the season. Yesterday was a good day, defence held up and attack finally scored more than a couple. There is no point trying to put a dampener on it.

Just think for a minute that we had ozil, Ceballos and xhaka in the middle of the park and ozil ceballos, xhaka, pepe, mustafi in the same team and yet through bit of luck and bit of organization managed to keep a clean sheet.

Three months ago that would seem impossible with that set of players.

We have a long way to go, so we should just enjoy this victory. More troublesome road ahead.

Arteta clearly believes that if you master the ball against teams that employ a low block, u will get rewarded.

He will not play this combination at CM unless he expects the opposition to just sit deep. Fair play to him.

Let's start winning games we should be winning before worrying about games we aspire to win.
