Player Ratings vs. Sheff Utd

Leno - 5. Nearly got closed down twice. Got nowhere near McBurnie's header but fortunately Xhaka mopped up. Couldn't do much about the goal.

Maitland-Niles - 6. Okay but not as standout as he has been. Really could've done with some help for the equaliser as they had three players queuing up at the back post.
Mustafi - 6. Shaky start but overall not bad.
Luiz - 6. Not bad apart from what header he didn't even jump for.
Saka - 8. MOTM. Assist for our goal. Showed drive, skill, strength, determination and confidence throughout.

Torreira - 7. Fighter. Glad he made a quick recovery.
Xhaka - 5. Okay I guess but still some of his decisions are bewildering. Tried to be clever and pass the ball between two players, which didn't work and resulted in him having to clear a header off the line, then conceded an absolutely mindless foul at the start of injury time.

Pepe - 7. One of our better players early on. Showed great feet but had faded by the end.
Ozil - 6. Didn't see much of him in the first half. Better second half as he tried threading things together.
Martinelli - 6. Missed two good chances before scoring. Could question his decision making at times but his movement and work rate are always spot on. Only player other than Aubameyang who looks like scoring so he HAS to stay in the side.

Lacazette - 5. Did well for our goal but that was about it. Unable to trouble any defenders physically and looks really unfit.

Subs:

Nketiah - 5. Got involved as soon as he came on.
Guendouzi - N/A. Not on long.

United started off much better before we found our feet and started to control the game a little bit. Scored right at the end of the first half and were comfortable for most of the second half. Again, like against Palace we were so comfortable yet didn't create enough chances, and United equalised late on.

Not good at all. Saka and Martinelli were the only positives as far as I could see. One 18 year old setting up another.

I'm giving them all 1, for lacing their boots up correctly except for Sakka and Martinelli, they can have a 6+

He also did not put in any effort to stop the cross that resulted in their equalizer.

Honeymoon period is over for Arteta. Poor application and lack of effort again today.

The squad isn't good enough. Simple as that. It's not the fault of the coach (Wenger, Emery, Ljungberg or Arteta).

We knew 3 years ago that Mustafi and Xhaka weren't good enough yet here we are in 2020 and they are still in the starting line up for us. How is that possible?

We still have midfielders playing full back. We still have strikers playing left wing. Haven't we learned that it doesn't work?

We still have no real leaders on the pitch. When your 2 captains are Lacazette and Ozil you know you're going to struggle for leadership. Ozil passes on the responsibility every single time. He's under no pressure on the edge of the box in the middle of the goal and instead of shooting he plays an awful pass to an 18 year old who's in a worse position. And he's the guy who meant to be our leader?

The recruitment and squad planning (or lack of it) has been awful over the last 7 or 8 years. That was why Wenger had to go, and that's why we needed to appoint a technical director immediately, instead of messing around for 18 months. Our best hope now is that some of these super talented youngsters grow up really fast. Can't see it happening though

It is not difficult to see why Luiz is not a good defender. He might have 1 or 2 good games in defence but at the end of the day, he will be found wanting.

Leno - 4.5. Looks so nervous at crosses and with the ball at feet.

Maitland-Niles - 5 ok. Not a fullback. End of.
Mustafi - 6. Shaky start but better than Luiz.
Luiz - 5. Get him out of this club. Going to cost us big time.
Saka - 8. MOTM. Assist for our goal. Showed drive, skill, strength, determination and confidence throughout.

Torreira - 7. Fighter. Glad he made a quick recovery.
Xhaka - 4. Get him out of this club. Going to cost us big time.

Pepe - 6. Tried but gets nowhere.
Ozil - 5. Actually saw him tackle back today. But nothing creative.
Martinelli - 6. Didn't think a lot to him and then he went and scored. Should keep his place with Aubameyang out.

Lacazette - 4 . Looks like he's running with lead boots on.

Aubameyang, Lacazette & Ozil as captains . (bloody joke)
Sort that one out Arteta.

Deja vu.
Was that Arsene Wenger I saw on the bench with Crab Football so bad that the ball was passed from edge of opponent penalty box to Leno?

Arteta, or any manager, will need 5 years to rebuilt Arsenal, like what Klopp did at Liverpool.
But FSG supported Klopp with mega-deals like Allison, Van Djik and Fabinho AFTER he bought Frimino, Mane, Salah and OX.

Future of Arteta?
Doubt he will last 18 months if Arsenal fans turn on him if we should be knocked out FA Cup and UEL Cup, and more Crab Football during April/May fighting to be Top-6 against likes of Wolves, Sheffield United, Burnley and Everton.

Arteta's future will depend very much on how much support and authority Sanllehi and Edu will give him to cull the squad and bring in new players that Arteta had identified is mandatory in his rebuilding process this summer, never mind current January Transfer Window.

The malaise is deep, and will take a long to shake off, we were a bit ulucky with their goal it was quite jammy and we should have had a pen.
Pepe had a very good game, and fans must keep in mind that Martinelli is only 18, consider he was standing in for Auba he didnt do bad.

This is my biggest concern, that the squad will need a lot doing to it, but do we have the funds or the nouse to get it done? I don't trust Raul and co to get it done at all, which is a shame after all the good feeling they created in the summer.

You have to assume this is why we're apparently already looking at Mertens and Kurzawa on free transfers for next summer. Wouldn't be surprised if we went back in for Muenier as well.
