Clubs across the Premier League could be handed a headache next January, with reports surfacing that the Africa Cup of Nations could be moving back to its winter date.

The tournament was moved to the summer months following a decision by their executive committee in 2017, but after just one competition, it now appears that they will return to their original January-February format.

The issue is set to be discussed on Wednesday when the executive committee meets in Yaounde, Cameroon, and president of the Confederation of African Football, Ahmad Ahmad, has already stated that a return to its original winter date would be better for the competition.

One of the reasons for the change is thought to be the temperature and weather both being more favourable in the opening two months of the year.

The move is also expected to be backed by FIFA as it means that the competition would no longer clash with their revamped Club World Cup competition which is due to kick-off in 2021.

As a result of the move, a host of Premier League clubs could be without a number of their star players for up to six matches next season.

Six matches my Arsenal, then there is the victory parade and recovery holiday

- until Wenger moves on, they'll always be the also-rans in the major competitions. A club in elite purgatory. Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Until he changes, Arsenal fans will continue to celebrate glorious failure.

Price drop for all African players if this goes through. When you cant be available for a quarter of the season every now and then, its difficult to justify a 150mn price tag.
