Player Ratings vs. Villa

Leno - 6. Don't think he could've done much more about their goals.

Maitland-Niles - 3. Think today summed up what has been a poor start to the season. Been handed a big opportunity in Bellerin's absence and hasn't taken it.
Sokratis - 4. The bloke is an embarrassment and needs dropping.
Luiz - 5. Beaten too easily at the near post in a fashion far too similar to Mustafi.
Kolasinac - 5. Thought he made a few good recoveries, particularly in the first half, but they all came from him being caught out of position in the first place.

Xhaka - 4. Passed the ball well enough but that doesn't mean much. Our midfield looked much better after he went off.
Guendouzi - 8. Lost McGinn for the opener but was without doubt the driving force in this comeback. Played a part in both equalisers. Impressive at 20 and some of our more senior players should be ashamed.

Pepe - 6. Poor first half but looked better in the second half. Opened his account for the club. Let's hope there are more to come.
Ceballos - 5. Always looked like he wanted to try and make something happen, but didn't actually do much. Not really stood out since the Burnley game.
Saka - 6. I thought he was our only player who turned up in the first half and should feel unlucky to have been subbed at half time.

Aubameyang - 6. Cut a frustrated figure for most of the game. Missed a good chance but won it late on with an excellent free kick.

Subs:

Chambers - 7. Scored and did well after he came on. Very happy for him as I feel he's been unlucky not to have played more.
Willock - 6. Showed energy and drive when he came on.
Torreira - 5. Similar to Willock.

What a game. Awful, awful first half where we looked useless going forward and clueless as ever at the back, finding ourselves 1-0 down and a man down at half time. Shortly after equalising we found ourselves behind again after more pathetic defending, but showed great fight to equalise and win it late on.

Showed great character to come back, and normally I'd think such a result could ignite our season, but the players didn't look like they wanted to play for Emery again in the first half, so I'm not confident.

Think we all know what needs to be done. Maitland-Niles (who'll be suspended anyway), Sokratis and Xhaka all being dropped. Will it happen?

Let's hope Pepe kicks on from here, pen was hardly convincing but they all count. Agree that Chambers should come in for Sokratis, but with AMN suspended and Bellerin just coming back he will probably play RB next game, so Sokratis won't be dropped yet.

Table-wise a great weekend for us but let's not kid ourselves, we are not achieving anywhere near our potential in the league and aren't getting closer to having more control of midfield. 3 man midfield is now Guendouzi plus two others.

I think the only reason he persists with Xhaka is for set pieces and he helps brings the ball out of defence. But if thats the case, better off playing Luiz who is a better tackler.

That would allow us to play Holding or Chambers in defence which should improve us. Sokratis is unlikely to be dropped.

Our biggest problem is attitude. We played without commitment in the first half and were punished. We lack leaders on the pitch. When Xhaka went off, Guendouzi, aubameyang and Torreira assumed leadership roles, lead by example with their energy and commitment and that forces everyone else to up their effort levels. Its not complicated.

When pepe saw aubameyang chasing every ball, he started doing the same. Sokratis and kolasinac upped their effort levels when they saw chambers, Torreira and Willock running and chasing everything.

And with 10 committed players, we turned it around and won the game. What we need to do now is show those effort and commitment levels for the whole 90 minutes without switching off. And to do that we need leadership on the pitch.

This. It also shows that having xhaka and AMN is worse than playing with 10 men

They should be committed and motivated from minute one thats the job of the manager and his coaches. What is done all week is a mystery but we look under prepared and lack even a modicum of commitment nothing new I know it is obviously a problem that runs through the club.

Under new managment

Sadly Ceballos was most of them

- until Wenger moves on, they'll always be the also-rans in the major competitions. A club in elite purgatory. Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Until he changes, Arsenal fans will continue to celebrate glorious failure.

Aubameyang let a low in confidence Pepe take the penalty, allowing him to get off the mark for the club. Did the same thing for low in confidence Lacazette as well.

What a guy.

But the media told us he'd be bad for the dressing room harmony!

What happens when Laca comes back? because it would be madness moving Auba to the left with the form he's in.

Put Lacca in midfield

I think the right thing to do would be to not shoehorn them both into the same team, but that's probably what will happen.

With two wingers or a diamond midfield when we've got our flying full backs fully fit?
