Think Lacazette & Torreira should have started.

You need a quality striker on the bench

- until Wenger moves on, they'll always be the also-rans in the major competitions. A club in elite purgatory. Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Until he changes, Arsenal fans will continue to celebrate glorious failure.

In place of whom?
Not disagreeing, just curious.

Xhaka & Pepe.

Great to see what Pepe can do from the start. Come on Arsenal, get something from this.

This is what it's all about for Pepe.
Hope he has a great debut.

Hate seeing ceballos out wide... More of this Wenger nonsense playing everyone out of position

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:05
Big chance missed by Pepe.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:19
To much pressure on us that half.
Have to change things 2nd half.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Kalela 24 August, 2019 18:21
Is sitting back and inviting pressure really a good idea against a team like Liverpool? Also Ceballos is not suited to a game like that. Torreira would have been better there. Emery would be wise to remove him in the 2nd half if he will continue to employ the same tactics.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Gooner Sod 24 August, 2019 18:21
Played as well, as we've ever done at Anfield in several years. Could easily have scored twice but find ourselves 1-0 down.

Encouraging overall as this is the toughest stadium to play in league.

PLease please just bench xhaka that useless c.nt

He was playing number 10. Game past him by. Not quick enough to cope with Liverpool.

Need to change formation at half time.

Although saying that, despite all the pressure Liverpool have had, they didn't have many clear chances and scored from a corner so it wasn't that bad.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
goonerred 24 August, 2019 18:25
We had 3 decent chances, you have to take them. I'm not watching but listening on the radio, sounds like it was all Pool.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Kalela 24 August, 2019 18:28
Is Arsenal using zonal when defending corners? How are smaller players ending up on Matip and VVD?

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Trent2000 24 August, 2019 18:28
No midfield at all, waiting to counter is not a bad idea, but Xhaka is nowhere to be seen and forwards working off of scraps.

Need a change soon, Pepe only real player that is running at anyone.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
MattySadler 24 August, 2019 18:28
Gahhhhhhhhhhhh that Pepe chance

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 18:32
I expect Emery to get his players to close down on Pool's full backs who are given a blank cheque to cross the ball in the 1st half. We are sitting off too far from them when the ball is in midfield.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:36
Suicidal start 2nd half.
This is going to get embarrassing.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
MattySadler 24 August, 2019 18:37
F*cking stupid

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:38
Typical Luiz.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.

Game over

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 18:39
That's the problem with having Luiz in defence. Expect him to try something illegal hoping to get away from it.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:40
Poor from Aubameyang

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 18:47
Another mistake by Luiz. Poor defending.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:47
Luiz done like a kipper.
3 down.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 18:49
Ceballos coming off. Torreira on.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 18:50
Maitland Niles is not a right back.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Kalela 24 August, 2019 18:51
Xhaka is a statue. That dude does not belong on a team wanting to finish at the top.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
grayfox1 24 August, 2019 18:58
How the @#$%& Laca is not on the pitch? Auba is so useless against these kind of teams. Emery is a clown.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 18:59
In a fast paced game, Xhaka should not be starting.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Boston Gooner 24 August, 2019 18:59
70 minutes gone and we have basically been battered.
Where miles away from being a top team.
Tactics wrong.
Players who are simply not good enough.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Trent2000 24 August, 2019 19:02
I know who is to blame...…………………. the answer is as always:

Ozil, literally gone missing again, LOL.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 19:08
It will take a few seasons to turn Arsenal around. No silver bullet. Defence is still not in optimal shape.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 19:20
Concentration is a problem for Maitland Niles.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
mapleleafgooner 24 August, 2019 19:25
Improvement from the last few seasons playing at Anfield. 🤫

I don't think he will ever be a good right back. He has some good games once in awhile but overall he is more of a liability than anything. With Bellerin coming back from a horrible career altering injury the club should be looking to upgrade that position.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
MattySadler 24 August, 2019 19:37
That was horrible but at least there are some very feint signs of improvement.

We nearly made it to half time 0-0 (Sm6).

It could have been a different story had Aubameyang's lob gone in and/ or Pepe had taken his chance.

Pepe was very lively and as he settles in he'll start causing havoc for defences.

Torreira was good when he came on and should be starting over Xhaka.

Not nice but I didn't ever think we'd beat Liverpool this early in the season.

Yeah Maitland Niles will be a good player for West Bromwich Albion maybe.

Laca should have started, he has strength in the box, he can hold up play and scores when he's on the floor.

Re: Team news and Liverpool match thread.
Gooner Sod 24 August, 2019 19:47
Yeah I'm not sure why everyone is acting so angry. We all thought we'd lose the game convincinly before the match. But all hoped we'd cause them problems.Thats exactly what happened.

We are away at Anfield against European Champs, so a bit of perspective. Our aim is top4 and from what I've seen so far, we are well equipped for that.

Liverpool and Man C are exceptional, this game came too early for us. I think we can do better with this squad.

Spurs are not close to the other two and its at home. We should expect a win in that one.

Seriously Liverpool away is the toughest fixture in the league based one them never losing there for over 2seasons.

We finished 1 pt behind Spurs last season, the gap between the top 2 and the rest is very wide. I predicted we would lose today, I will be predicting a home win for next week

Agreed City and Pool are the two best teams in Europe Spurs are better than is but not by much then theres about six teams on a par with each other.
