Match Thread: Wolves vs Manchester United

A Big Game!!

By Wolves
August 19 2019

When Manchester United take to the Molineux pitch tonight manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and his team will surely be wishing to avenge the two defeats inflicted upon them there last season.

After the delight of beating Pyunic by an 8 - 0 aggregate in Europe, Wolves return to the challenge of beating a team who will also be hoping for a top six place at the end of the season. Having spent over £130 million on only two players in the close season, United will be hoping for a much better performance against Wolves tonight than their last two efforts. After playing three new signings from the start in his team on Thursday, Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo will possibly return to his tried and trusted line-up, although he can often be unpredictable.

Tonight's game will feature on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football from 8pm. There is also an opportunity to watch the documentary 'Wolves In China' before the game at 6pm or following it at 11pm

Subs: Ruddy, Vinagre, Saiss, Gibbs-White, Traore, Neto, Cutrone

Daniel James makes his first start for United tonight

Free kick from Joao comes to nothing. Pretty even so far, although as always we are playing deep & conceding possession

It's an interesting tussle down the left wing when Jota is up against Wan Bissaka

United are very well organised and well drilled.
Pogba & Joao clash but both OK

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 20:44
Neves probably lucky to avoid a yellow card for a foul

Not really Wolverina but Utd are a strong team.
One minute added time played and Utd lead by one goal with their only attempt on goal. Wolves have struggled to attack and have had no shots. Neves is not having the influence we like to see him have in midfiel, but Boly has been superb in defence as always.

We're sh1te tonight .. fairly embarrassing so far. Get the Italian lad on , we have less fire power upfront than a castrated geriatric monk

United bossing the game, look much sharper with Rashford and Martial

Shall I take reality to be somewhere between Cheshire and Angry? I'm only judging by what I'm reading, having no link to the actual game. Hopefully we can get to grips in the second half.

Traore on early, hope he can shake things up

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:04
I think that would be a fair upidea!
Underway again. Traore has replaced Doc who was perhaps injured in the warm up. Good attack fro Wolves, but Jota clattered by James

Lingard should have scored!
Neves fouls James & gets a yellow card

The first time Inhave heard our crowd singing Traore's name.
Raul goes so close hitting the bar, then Neves converts from edge of the area in true style

Goal was under VAR REVIEW AND I THOUGHT WE'D BE ROBBED AGAIN, IT STANDS ! damn caps lock but get in

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:15
Lengthy delay whilst VAR looks at possible offside but goal is given. A fabulous @#$%& into top right corner by a Neves to score. Traore's work before the goal was excellent

Great save by Rui to deny Pogba

Cheshire wolf

Pogba went for power from the spot - it was a penalty - & Rui dived to his right & stopped it & rebounded it away from goal. Match is well poised now

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:35
Our defence have their work cut out but they are working hard to frustrate Utd. I also think we are worrying Utd more at the back when we attack.

Mata replaces Lingard

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:40
Think Traore must have been coached a lot during the summer as he has been really effective since coming on putting in some good crosses. Pity it went on to Jonny's head!!

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:42
Neto preparing to come on which is interesting. Five minutes to go. Corner to Utd well cleared Wolves break down left & Leander puts a half chance over the bar. Neto replaces Jota

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:45
James & Rashford replaced by Greenwood & Pereira

Cheshire wolf

Into the last minute - what we've give for a goal!! Four added minutes

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:48
Cutrone on to replace Raul. Angry will be pleased!!

Cheshire wolf
19/08/2019 21:53
Rui saves from Shaw but whistle already gone.
That's it all over. Rui made a fantastic 'legal' save to earn us a point after a superb & typical Neves strike. An entertaining game and I think a good point for Wolves at this stage of the season against a classy United side, who look considerably better than last season.
Wolves 1 Man Utd 1

wolverina
19/08/2019 21:55
I'm reasonably happy with that. They sound to have come back well in the second half - and, yes, MU are going to be better than last season. Thank God they let Pogba take the penalty! Night, all!

Strange time to make a sub, Id have brought Jota off at HT personally but special shout out to Traore who was brilliant when he came on. It's a reasonable result but think we were a little fortuitous to get a draw overall

Ivybridge Wolf

Enjoyed the match, the atmosphere was good and Manchester United are a better side than last year, at least on the evidence yesterday. I thought a draw was fair.

We were a bit disjointed at times, especially after the good Martial goal when we looked at risk. We often gave the ball away too cheaply. Came out the traps strong second half though and you have to attribute that to Traore, maybe the best contribution I have seen from him - dead pleased for him. The Doc just didn’t make the impact down the wing.

Two great moments:
1. the penalty save was extremely good. Interested to hear about all the media stuff about the ‘who takes the penalty for Man U’ row. Meaningless to me, in the moment watching the match, I never saw it nor would have been slightly interested but what a shame it has taken away from the quality of the Patricio save which was brilliant.
2. The Neves goal - pure excellence. What a shame that the VAR intervention damped the supporters celebration of such a fantastic moment. VAR is definitely not for the fans in the ground. Not at the moment at least - nobody had a clue what was going on.

Good match, loved being back and liked the railings they’ve put up in the North Bank - still burns the calf’s and thighs walking to get up there though!

Very good point for us - UTW!
