Ruben Neves celebrating

By Wolves
February 26 2019

Wolves travel for their second consecutive away game tonight to the John Smiths Stadium, Huddersfield. They will be looking to reverse the 2 - 0 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Terriers in November at Molineux

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo is expecting a tough match this evening against a team struggling to stay in the Premier League, and under new management since the teams last met. Whilst Huddersfield have some injuries and a suspension affecting their selection options, Nuno's squad are all fit and available for the game, particularly Joao Moutinho who required stitches in his mouth after being elbowed by Jefferson Lerma in Saturday's game. wolves achieved their presumed target of 40 points at Bournemouth and will now be hoping to consolidate their attempt to achieve European football in their first season in the top division. A goal from midfield hero Ruben Neves would be very welcome for our many travelling fans.

An unchanged team from Saturday's match will start tonight.

Line-up: Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Dendoncker, Neves, Jonny, Moutinho, Jota, Jimenez

Substitutes: Ruddy, Vinagre, Saiss, Gibbs-White, Costa, Cavaleiro, Traore

Our referee tonight is David Coote. He is in his first season in the Premier League, and refereed our home game with West Ham. In my view he was similar to Simon Hooper in Cardiff's game with Watford last Friday who is also a newbie. Neither of them showed the courage needed to give a penalty, presumably for fear of criticism.
Let's hope he does better tonight.

Jan Siewert has made eight changes to his team tonight, with his twenty year old right back making his debut. Nothing lost in trying presumably!

Meanwhile a return to his old club for s captain Connor Coady

Enthusiastic start by Terriers but Wolves looking well organised

Cheshire wolf
26/02/2019 19:51
First corner of the game goes to Terriers & well dealt with by Rui

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 19:53
Good corner by, in my view Huddersfields best player, Pritchard, well punched out by Rui. Followed by a shot from Billing, huge deflection - really could have gone anywhere, luckily to a corner.

Rui elects to punch rather than catch. Banks and Shilts would have caught it!

Philip Billing was a thorn in our side at the Mol and he is already in the thick of things. Willy Boly just made a great tackle on him, but now down clutching his left knee - possibly after a bad landing from a header

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 19:55
Nasty landing from a routine challenge from Boly - injured - looks like a knee but thumbs up!! Think he’ll be okay for now - hope so, I have him to score!

Terriers are the brighter in terms of pressing but we are looking solid, so far, at the back. Ball not quite sticking up front ...... yet

Good work by Jonny to earn Wolves first corner but comes to nothing

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 20:03
1st Wolves corner, decent wing play from Jonny. 17th minute. Comes to nothing.

Huddersfield fairly composed ATM

Great chance for Doc set up by Jota but goes wide

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 20:12
We ay on it as yet. Nothing like the hideous reverse effort at Molineux, but just not going!

With that, great work from Jota and a chance to Doc who snatched at a very good chance - wide. Best Wolves move of the match, at least

First yellow card to Billing for cynical foul on Jota

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 20:16
Yellow to Billing. Absolutely took out Jota. Think Billing was a bit peed off they didn’t get a free kick.

Another mini raid down the left with Jonny. All our good stuff is down the left so far

Good build up by Terriers but poor final shot. They certainly are not lying down tonight

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 20:26
Pritchard looks their best player to me. Has troubled us on a few occasions.

Long period of Wolves possession end up in a dangerous free kick. Moutinho takes ...... Jiminez just wide - corner!!

Good long build up by Wolves leads to free kick just outside the are. Raul header deflected for a corner.
Now another corner. Terriers fans feel ref is biased but he is doing well so far!!

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 20:29
Another two Wolves corners - nothing! Break away, Bennett yellow.

Huddersfield look toothless up front ...... so far despite pressing reasonably well.

Wolves just not creating enough chances.

It’s not a classic!!

Another first half without a goal, still 45 attacking our fans now.

Traore time??

Doc tackled in penalty area & hurt but carries on.
Half time. Good first half, Terriers have played well although lacking ideas in final third. They have certainly not lacked effort and have frequently stifled Wolves attack.
Think Cavaleiro will make an appearance before too long in second hald

Both teams short of ideas and ability tonight

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 21:06
Good play from Jota down the left. A lot of space to cross - only find the keeper. Frustrating but hopefully signs of positivity

Moutinho corner, Boly over. Harrumph.

Subs
MGW for Moutinho
Cav for Jota

Will this be enough to unlock Huddersfield?

Joao replaced by MGW & Jota replaced by Cavaleiro for his 100th game

26/02/2019 21:16
More good play by Wolves ends with Neves putting it very wide! Jonny & Boly our best players this evening - so far - in my opinion

Ivybridge Wolf

15 minutes to go .......

Looks a bit brighter with Cav. A very promising attack thwarted by a poor cross by MGW. Frustration continues

15 minutes to play. Wolves beginning to flex their muscles but still need to be better in front of goal

Aaron Mooy - who scored twice at the Mol - replaces Pritchard for H'field.

Costa replaces Jimenez who has largely been marked out of things tonight

Mooy on for Pritchard

Corner to Wolves, Cav now on duty ..... terrrible corner overhit.

Imagine being told at the start if the season we would lose home and away to a team marooned to the bottom of the league.. you would be planning the championship journeys for next season. Beating spurs and Chelsea but losing to huddersfield , you couldn't make it up

Cheshire wolf
26/02/2019 21:41
All over and Huddersfield have done the double over us!! On balance they deserved it much mdore than we did. We lacked ideas and skill tonight in the face of desperate enthusiasm.
Difficult to deny H'field a goal and a win after the shi!!y season they have had, but we will need to do much better against our old foe Cardiff on Saturday.

Ivybridge Wolf
26/02/2019 21:42
1-0 FT.

We were second best of 2 fairly poor sides.

Take nothing away from Huddersfield, they were more up for it on the night, really, from the off.

We never, ever got going.

Incredibly disappointing where no player emerges with any real credit.

Hopefully just one of those nights ....... so one of our ‘guaranteed’ 3 point back to backs is cancelled. Step up Cardiff!

UTW.
