Raul opens the scoring

By Wolves
February 23 2019

Wolves travel to the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth today, hoping to compete their second double of the season against the team currently three places below them in the Premiership. A win would see Wolves climb above Watford back into seventh place.

Nuno Espirito Santo knows his team will face a strong challenge today as Bournemouth have not lost at home to a team outside the top six since 2017, and have played considerably better at home than away this season. However he will be hoping that Wolves can emulate the 2 - 0 result they achieved at Molineux in December. Nuno has reported a fully fit squad, which potentially could see the return of Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves to the starting Xl, whilst the Cherries will be without Callum Wilson and David Brooks, and possibly Junior Stanislas.

Unsurprisingly today’s line-up is:
Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Dendoncker, Neves, Moutinho, Jonny, Jimenez, Jota

Subs: Ruddy, Vinagre, Saiss, Gibbs-White, Costa, Cavaleiro, Traoré

Referee is Roger East

We’ve started very positively, a couple of good positions well defended. 3rd corner coming up for Wolves!

Came to nothing but we look good!

Cheshire wolf
23/02/2019 15:37
Bournemouth are constantly appealing to referee for free kicks yellow cards etc, which is quite surprising really.
Wolves moving well and getting into promising positions but haven't brought a save from Boruc yet.

Good play by Jota taking on Mepham but his shot just eludes Raul

Ivybridge Wolf
23/02/2019 15:39
So close! Jota, lovely run and shot / cross, Jiminez just failing to latch onto it

Other than that, the longer this half has gone on, Bournemouth have looked increasingly comfortable

Cheshire wolf
23/02/2019 15:51
Half time whistle goes. Fairly even game which Wolves shouldn't be losing as they should have had a penalty for hand ball.
I really hope this game isn't decided by a penalty which I thought was dubious! Wolves started really well, but Cherries have come into the game quite well, and pose a real threat when Josh King breaks at real speed.
Second half should be good and hopefully our forwards will find a way to get past Nathan Ake and get some shots in.

Ivybridge Wolf
23/02/2019 15:51
HT

It’s even. Bournemouth have defended well and looked dangerous, fleetingly that is. We started like a house on fire in terms of pushing , the irony is that Boric’s gloves still haven’t picked up any dirt! Our intensity couldn’t last and didn’t, but we are not out of this.

I felt their penalty was justified, however dear oh dear - our penalty, or rather non-penalty - furious!

Ivybridge Wolf

Draw.

Biazarre scenes just before the final whistle when the pitch sprinklers were switched on.

I don’t know what to feel about that. Having seen their first penalty, I’m inclined to change my thoughts but I’d have been shouting like a gudun if it had been a Wolves player had gone down in the box in the same circumstances. For me, real time, it looked a penalty. We should have definitely had the handball given to us, our proper penalty was a penalty and their second was a dreadful referring error.

A good away point. 40 now. Wild celebrations as we reach our prem record lol. Bournemouth are no mugs though and stifled our usual attacking swagger whilst really pushing us hard in the second half. Coady, Bennett and Boly all earnt their money today. As did Ake for them.

I’d say a draw was fair - not withstanding card waiving refereeing, at times incompetently so.

Postcript.

I've seen replays of their goal. The player was clearly looking for a penalty. It was a 'soft one' and certainly not clear cut as I initially thought. Nevertheless similar circumstances on the other boot, I'd have been screaming for a penalty.

Would VAR have ruled that one out?
