Match Thread: FA Cup 5th Round: Bristol City vs Wolves

FA Cup 5th Round

By Wolves
February 17 2019

Wolves return to Ashton Gate today - where fans remember their last gasp victory in the Championship last season - hoping to make it through to the last eight in this year's competition.

Nuno Espirito Santo knows that Wolves will face a stiff test against Bristol City today, as they are in very good form in the Championship and have won their last 9 games. Wolves will benefit from knowing they don't play again in the Premier League until next Saturday, so many of the usual first team may play in today's game, which many fans hope will happen to mount a serious attempt to progress. It is anticipated that Diogo Jota may be rested due to niggling injuries, and John Ruddy is again expected to be in goal.

This match will be broadcast live on BT Sport. I don't have this feature and have decided I will be watching it in my local. I will endeavour to provide updates but will by no means be doing any sort of commentary. Board members are encouraged to keep each other informed on here.

Down the pub with me Wolves mates too. Really poor phone reception in there. Devon ay it?!

I hope Bristol City come out at us. They should have the confidence to do so. That gives us our best chance, I think.

Waiting for the team with great anticipation. UTW!

Ruddy for Patricio
Saiss for Neves
Cav for Jota

Otherwise, the team that faced Toon.

Haven’t seen the bench but hope Neves is amongst them. Got to be honest, would prefer to see him on the pitch from the off.

Enjoy! UTW!!

looks like a strong lineup. They were talking about Adama getting a start but Nuno is obviously not taking that risk.
I was at the Shrewsbury replay but back on the sofa for this one. Snowing outside. I wanna come home!!

Joao puts a free kick into area which Boly gets a head on but it goes wide. Last 30 seconds to play plus added time if any

Half time & Wolves leaf by the only goal of the game from Ivan Cavaleiro. City have had some periods of good play but never rmade Ruddy make a save.
Moutinho & Dendoncker are well organised in midfield and Jimenez is stretching the City defence nicely. Doc is having one of his superb games!

City 0 Wolves 1

0-1 Half time. Bristol did have a couple of chances but Ruddy was not troubled by either. 2nd half will likely be a bit 'lively'.
Doherty is in top form, but a couple of slips from Dendoncker he will want to make up for

City have reorganised and are posing more of a threat rhs half, but their finishing is very poor so far

Deflection nearly beat Ruddy but Coady helps out. Pack brings out a save from Ruddy.
Goal scorer Cavaleiro is replaced by MGW

Good save by Fielding to keep out a Joao free kick. Agree with Wolverina we need another - at least!!

Good goalkeeping to deny MGW. Then Boly puts a wild shot over the bar. Joao gets a yellow card for a foul.

Yellow card for Boly for kicking the ball away after a foul. Ruddy has to rip ball over the bar from a header after free kick. Corner put over the bar. Three minutes to play.

All over after a fairly hard game, Cavaleiro’s goal is the winner and Wolves are in the last 8 for the first time in 16 years!!
Bristol City 0 Wolves 1

In the hat! Quarter final, terrific! Second half was a bit dodgy at time but we deserved it. First half we were in total control.

Home draw please,

UTW!
