Madejski madness? A great Wolves win!

A report from the Madeski

An opportunity to see again Ivybridge Wolf's report to the Molineux Way from the Madejski Stadium on three points away from home for Wolves

What a great day. Up early and on the road , we saw friends in Reading pre match, thrilling match at times, wonderful win and even a major closure of the M5 near Exeter on the way home completely failed to dampen spirits.

It was a topsy turvey kind of match but I believe we deserved the win. Reading fans may not agree but the difference yesterday was that we not only had the players with the cutting edge to win a match, we also possessed the players to save a match too. It will take many elements and types of performance for Wolves to earn promotion. Yesterday was won in a way all on its own and it was terrific!

We had the beautiful possession play but we also had many errors and gave gifts and survived close shaves and provided ugly tackles (Bennett!) and a triple salco (poor from Doc). We had terrific energy which lapsed especially in the second half but the team continued to work so hard and the defending, albeit sometimes last gasp was quite superb.

This performance was summed up by Ruddy - the good, the bad and the ugly but most of all the simply excellent! I’ll give him the benefit that rather than flap, he actually saved well in the first minute, tipping a swirler onto the post but his attempted clearance minutes later was truly awful, shaving the post off a Reading rebound. We could have been 2 down after 10 minutes and I said there and then, we’ll win this! Then Ruddy’s command and assurance returned and throughout he showed confidence, was involved in many a scramble but his shear unbelievable excellence for that breathtaking one handed save in the second half, I can’t explain my emotions in that moment! Better than scoring a goal for me, especially in the context.

Then there were the goals, they weren’t shabby either, the first was so sweet after great interplay, a sumptuous pass for my main man Jota to Cav who rounded the keeper with such ease I wanted to cry! Instead I exploded! Docs goal was special too but I didn’t realise how good until I saw the highlights. In fact I’m not going to lie, up the other end I thought it was Neves, mainly because the bloke next door confirmed it to me!

Finally a special mention to Coady and Boly. The win was a thorough team effort, however they both provided the guile, presence, guts and determination, skill and bravery to seal it. They were both mountainous for me.

There’s no doubt, this match had just about everything. Definitely not Wolves at their current silkiest but enthralling, gutsy, skilful, determined, sprinkled with a little luck, in fact everything a fan could want in a match. Edge of the seat stuff, especially in the second half. So yes, a difference style of Wolves win but the fact we can deliver such a win merely grows my confidence and belief.

A truly wonderful day.

Up the Wolves!
