Cup Round-up – 30. 01. 2010

Afan Lido 2 – 1 Gap Connah’s Quay (Extra Time)

While most of the Welsh leagues were in full action this weekend, there was still a good list of Welsh Cup action to sink our giant-killing sweet teeth into. The biggest shock of the day came from Afan Lido’s well deserved extra time 2 – 1 victory over a poor Gap Connah’s Quay side. Early on, the Port Talbot based side almost took the lead with a Mark Jones shot on target on 7 minutes, which beat the keeper but went wide by an inch. But, even after several shots and disallowed chances for both sides, Connah’s Quay took the lead in the 69th minute with a Sam McNutt goal. The Lido side equalized with four minutes left in the game with an 86th minute goal from the on-form Mark Jones who lead the game into extra time. The game was eventually one with a 100th minute goal from Nathan White, which sealed the game for the seaside outfit.

Aberystwyth Town 0 - 2 Port Talbot Town

An excellent crowd of almost 500 turned out for this fourth round battle of Europa League hopefuls. The South Wales outfit, Port Talbot Town brought an excellent away support of over 200 to the game, who were all eager to sing, dance and light flares to get behind the blues. It all payed off in the end with the Aberystwyth faithfuls looking down in shame as they were thrashed 2 – 0 by the Blues who made the hour and a half trip up the motorway to eventually seal a Final Eight finish.

Rhyl FC 7 – 0 Pontardawe Town

A crowd of 376 saw Rhyl thrash the Welsh Football League Division 1 mid-tablers from South Wales. John Leah saw his first hat trick in this game with 16th, 44th and 76th minute goals, overall, the Champion’s League team saw out Pontardawe in this no-contest at the Belle Vue.

Bangor City 3 – 1 Aberaman Athletic

MacWhirter League team Aberaman turned up with a decent away support today for their fourth round meeting with Bangor City, this Aberaman open the scoring with an 18th minute opener from Jon Philipps but their dream was shortly ended by three excellent goals, two from Jamie Reed.

Other results in the cup:

Bala Town 2 – 0 Caersws FC

Llandudno Junction 0 – 6 TNS

Llanelli AFC 4 – 0 Holyhead Hotspur

Prestatyn Town 1 – 0 Porthmadog FC
