Gillingham v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion

By Deadly Submarine
April 17 2014

If you can't make Tranmere's vital game at Gillingham on Friday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too. As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Stadium - Gillngham

Tranmere of course, travel to Gillingham for a vital game on Friday afternoon in Sky Bet League One, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on? You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live. What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Has to be a point at the very least, but here's hoping we can get a win to give us all a happy Easter.

Good old John Mc, chasing the game, gives Stockton 5 minutes, and he's a professional coach!!! Needs to sort it out for Monday, please whatever the outcome, whatever league we are in next season, please let's get a semi decent manager!

It is now looking really difficult and the goal difference going further in the wrong direction.

It is hard to understand the fixation with playing Cassidy and the reluctance to use Stockton.

There is always the hope that we win both home games but it is hope and not expectation. Still 3 points on Monday and things may look different.

The frustration is that it feels over the season as though it could so easily have been different with better team selection.

Find that one hard to take. We dominated at least 60% of the game and had so many chances that we just didn't take.

At least we're going down fighting I suppose as yet another undeserved defeat passes by.

Correct me if incorrect, but I think that is 1 goal in 16 games from Jake since he returned.
Garnett says that it is to late to gamble by changing the forward line, and that Jake brings more to the team than Cole - but just what that is nobody else seems to know.
The defeat may well be undeserved, but unfortunately, the problem is that the opposition continue to score more goals than us.
Regardless of his other shortcomings (but remember he was too important for us to let him go out on loan) at least we know that Cole will attack the ball, in the box, and get some shots off.
Time for change McMahon!

It is never too late or too soon to change a team that is loosing. The more so when it matches the opposition in terms of posssession but is not scoring.

Why was Arthurworrey not the replacement Goodison rather than Holmes? As a central defender he looks a better option

The mind boggles over mcmahons choices for subs or starting 11 , has cole scored more goals this season than cassidy with less game time ????

Stats are more often than not laughable when you've been at a game and read them after. They are never a true reflection as today proves!

The table doesn't lie though. We are fighting a relegation battle 'cos that's what we deserve.

If that's tue what Shaun garnett says about jake over cole, that just poves that between them (garnet/McMahon)that they don't know their @#$%& from their elbow!
Cassidy couldn't score for Wolves when he was supported by 10 very good players, why should that change when thrown into a poor team(certain few exceptions)

Let us be rational.

Carlisle have Peterborough, Wolves andCrawley away. And Oldham at home. Oldham look to be improving. if they beat Oldham we will need 1 point unless they score 3 goals more than us. I can see them losing the other games.

Notts County at home to Swindon and Crawley, Away to Oldham.
I can see them getting 4 points max ,so we need 2 points from last 3 games.

shrewsbury have Preston and Gillingham away and Peterborough at home. Given they lost at hometo Crewe, I do not se them winning two,to give them 47. If they do, we need two point from three games.

Stevenage have Sheffield U and Brentford away, Bristoland Walsallat home. They are unlikely to get more than 6 points, which is short of our current 46.

Crewe have Colchester and Preston at home, Bristol away. I can see them getting three max. So we would need to win one game of our last three to stay up in my opinion.

Colchester, if they lose to Crewe, will have a difficult time because Brentford at home, Walsall away. They could easily lee all three.

Obviously, nothing is certain but based on form of all teams I think we will just about make it.

The problematic issue is that so many of these teams have little to play for. The play off positions look almost sorted so it is difficult to read general form at this stage of a season. On balance Notts C are probably playing better than us, Stevenage and Shrewsbury are almost irrelevant, for if we do not finish above them then we will almost certainly be in the bottom four. Crewe, Notts C and Colchester and Carlisle are the key teams.
Our fixtures look no more demanding but our home form makes it feel like a lottery.Four points could do it but this week was a real opportunity missed.

Three stats far from laughable, whether you have been to the game or not.
Goals for - Nil
Goals against - two
Points earned - nil

So where do you sit - just for clarity, and far from a trick question - Jake or Cole for Monday's game?

There must be something in the loan contract for Cassidy that he has to start, but to only give Cole 5 mins if he's lucky is mind boggling

Not a beneficial result that's obvious, but still above the danger line and with a chance so I still feel the club will stay up.

It's a possibility Pete as it is otherwise hard to explain why he continues to play ahead of Stockton but I guess we will never know for sure and will always be left to assume.

I admire the posts on here from Devon and Whingers in particular saying we can still do it and I guess I kind of believe we can too but being realistic I just can't see where the points are going to be warned given how well we've played in past couple of games and got nothing.

I would rather us be where we are than where Shrewsbury, Stevenage, Notts County, Carlisle or Crewe are. Simple as.

After we beat Shrewsbury I always thought 1 more win should see us safe. Despite all the doom and gloom if we beat sheff u we'll be ok. Any other result and it may be beyond us or we may have be left with a must win final game v Bradford and that does worry me. Let's get the job done Monday.
