With the FA Cup fourth round featuring several League One sides, it could be said that last weekend's set of fixtures would not get the attention of as many fans as it would do for an ordinary weekend of League games. Nonetheless though, fourteen teams took to the field and thousands of supporters flocked to the stadiums, all in hope or even expectation that their team would come out of their games with three points. In the end, the seven fixtures yielded 21 goals and of course as always, very different reactions from the fans.
Perhaps the best viewing this weekend was at Griffin Park, where Brentford overcame Wycombe 5-2 in a seven goal thriller and this at a ground which is not use to holding classics in recent months. Brentford were on an abysmal run but in form striker Gary Alexander grabbed a hatrick in a devastating display by the Brentford frontline, to the pleasure of Brentford gaffer Uwe Rosler. That win for Brentford kept their hopes of a play off place alive, as they move within five points of 6th place Stevenage.
However one of the surprises of the day came at Victoria Park, as Hartlepool dismantled Carlisle United 4-0. These two teams were expecting to slug out a dull match, with the likely outcome being a draw, but an incredibly professional display by the home side swept away the visitors. For the Hartlepool fans, it was not only the crushing win that pleased them.

A goal from Huddersfield's prolific striker Jordan Rhodes wasn't enough to earn three points vs Tranmere
The performance of young striker Luke James will not go unnoticed as he scored twice and picked up man of the match in the process. Also, promotion chasing Huddersfield were of course held to a 1-1 draw by Tranmere at Prenton Park. Prolific forward Jordan Rhodes gave Huddersfield a lead, but could not cling onto it and Tranmere moved seven points clear of the drop zone.
With that away draw, Huddersfield lost ground on league leaders Charlton as they snatched a 1-0 win at Exeter City but were lucky to do so as the hosts could have snatched a point or even all three but failed to make their pressure count. It was a bad day for new Preston manager Graham Westley as his side were defeated at lowly Yeovil Town 2-1, both sides were reduced to ten men whilst Preston defender Clark Carlisle scored his first League goal for the club. That result means that Preston are now nine points off the play off places as Yeovil still linger above the relegation zone.
Rochdale ended their wretched home form in spectacular fashion as they eased past rivals Bury 3-0 in an incredibly impressive display by the Dale, whom were denied more goals by the opposing keeper Cameron Belford who was in fine form to prevent a humiliating scoreline for his side. Colchester recovered from an embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Chesterfield by winning at Leyton Orient 1-0, a result which delighted their fans.
This weekend has given a lot for the League One managers and players to ponder, before they take to the field next Saturday and as we have seen, this weekend saw quite a few surprises with Tranmere holding Huddersfield, Yeovil defeating Preston, Colchester winning at Leyton Orient, Hartlepool thrashing Carisle and Rochdale doing the same to Bury.
Over the next week, there are several matches which catch the eye. Midweek sees MK Dons host fellow promotion chasers Sheffield Wednesday, before MK Dons then travel to Huddersfield on the following Saturday. As for Tranmere Rovers, they of course visit relegation threatened Wycombe Wanderers.
