HEADERNEW - matchdiscussion

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Tranmere of course host Peterborough United in N Power League One on saturday afternoon, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game onthis thread where possible but these details are updated also on our Twitter Page throughout the game so if you're not following us already why not do so at www.twitter.com/totaltranmere.

I know but i'm just fed up with seeing the likes of Akins and McGurk playing out wide. Play Mackreth, Fraughan, Creswell or Bakayogo there instead - players who have at least some idea about how to play that position.

He's still been playing players out of position when we didn't have injuries.

Re: Tranmere Rovers v Peterborough Utd Match Discussion

The problem is though, we have only a limited number of experienced players, and he is trying to get as many of them on the pitch at all times, even if it means playing them out of position (e.g. Thomas-Moore). The only exception to this is Bakayogo, who is being kept out of the team by Cresswell, who I believe has been our best player this season and who I would keep at left-back for sure.

This means that the inexperienced players, such as McGurk, Akins etc. are being used to fill the holes left in the team where there is little experience.

For what it's worth, I don't actually think Jack is that ready to play. I'd love to see him make a few cameo appearances, maybe the odd start, but I'd personally rather see Thomas-Moore in one of the out wide 4-3-3 positions. I agree that Fraughan should play in one of them though.

However...with so many injuries hitting our midfield at the moment, one of the only options is to play Ryan in the middle, where he was fairly anomonous on Tuesday evening.

We did play 4-4-2 on Tuesday though, with Kayleden Brown and Lucas Akins on the wings, who looked threatening first half and were very poor in the second. Maybe Les will shake this up a bit today, but with our central midfield options so limited, the only way Ryan could play on the wing is if we put Blanchard into midfield with Mendy.

I'd go along with that, Matt.
There's no reason why Goodi & Grandi, couldn't play in the CB positions, and then Blanchard doing the holding role in mid.
Then no matter the formations, Les has more options than he did on Tues.
If ITM is fit then he could play right, with Fraughan on the left.
After Tues, I would like to see Morrow & Enoch up front.
Whatever the formation, I still think a draw, would be a great result for us. but I can see us getting battered!

Les chose not to sign any wingers and brought in a ridicolous number of strikers instead. I know he's had very little money, but the money he's had has been wasted in the wrong places. He's signed McGurk, Morrow, Akins, Showoddywoddy, Brown (on loan) upfront, but not signed any wingers. Of the striker he's signed he didn't need to sign Akins, Brown and McGurk/Morrow - considering he also has ITM as well as Gornell at the start of the season, not to mention Dale Jennings. I'm sure he could have signed 2 wingers and a central midfielders instead of 3 extra strikers. Our strikers wont score goals if there is nobody in midfield to provide the chances for them.

People say its all well and good only coming on here when we lose to start moaning, so I would just like to say Tranmere were excellent today. We gave everything, and to be honest with a bit more composure could have won by more.

I thought Mendy was brilliant, but my MOTM goes to Grandison, who won everything in the air and was a rock. Every player deserves credit, although Darville and Collister still worry me. Blanchard puts himself about, but has absolutely no composure on the ball and just tends to kick it anywhere, that was quite effective today though.

All in all a throughly deserved three points, weldone to Les and the boys today. I still have my concerns, but I concede today was brilliant from everybody involved.

sorry but darville was excellent today contender for motm without doubt. Collister made some very good saves. The only player I could question was ITM nowhere near his usual self and shirt untucked body language poor, big worry.

Everyone pulled their weight Mcgurk had a great game.

Not bad with 4-3-3 ay!!!!!!!!!!

I am shocked Ricci winking smiley

We were brilliant today, better team by far and much more organised!

MOTM was Enoch, superb!

Worried about ITM though, didn't look interested and was pretty woeful today sad smiley

Fantastic performance today. At times it was backs to the wall, but we defender so, so well. Yes it was nerve racking but at no point did they ever have real clear cut chances which they could have buried to score.

The goal was fantastic, an excellent finish by Mendy after great work by Fraughan. It wasn't our only chance too, McGurk early on, Showunmi, McGurk again...and that's just the first half.

We were great value for our win and it's terrific that we've picked up a confidence boosting win that's lifted us to fifteenth in the table, the highest we've been for over a year I think!

I think that's the best I've seen us defend for some time. We were so solid all match. Grandison and Goodison were immense, both contenders for MOTM, as was the excellent Cresswell. Darville was solid but I get the impression the guy lacks any kind of footballing brain. We were trying to play the last few minutes out and he kept over hitting long hoofs out of play!

Mendy - superb. Another great signing by Les by the looks of it and hopefully we can extend his loan when the time comes to it. Fraughan was much more lively then Tuesday, created chances and got himself about. He's beginning to look better and better. Thrown in there too was Blanchard who also was fantastic. He looks like such a great, solid player. I'm well pleased with him so far! Another contender for MOTM.

McGurk looked good when he was on and created a few chances. He has good vision and a great touch but was very unlucky to come off injured. Brown looked decent when he came on too, lively and direct, but he MUST look up more.

Showunmi was awesome. He was a role model as captain. He did so so much running, loads of closing down, harrying defenders and forcing mistakes. He was whacked at the end. Superb.

Ian Thomas-Moore though was very poor. He just didn't look bothered and did very little running. Unprofessional performance sad smiley

What a massive difference today from the last shower that i saw. I thought they all played well today, Mendy and Grandison need to be tied up to longer term loans because they really made a difference. I thought Fraughan looked dangerous coming forward and thought Blanchard played the holding role well. Up front I though Enoch was outstanding, seems to have spent some time getting his fitness up and losing some weight which hugely impressed me. Moore was ok and thought McGurk had a fantastic game. Defensively we looked a little vulnerable at times but I thought Darville made some fantastic tackles today, especially that block in the first half.

All in all, a massive improvement and the biggest difference for me was the midfield because we actually had one. We look so much better off without Mclaren, Welsh and Labadie that I would be happy if I didn't see any of them again this season.

Moment of the match for me, watching Goody flick the ball over Macail-Smith's head and then heading it back to Collister. He had him in his pocket again all match!!!!

I agree with what people are saying about Thomas Moore, when we scored he sort of just clapped and didn't celebrate with the others or anything.

If speculation is right then it will be a test of Parry's man managegement skills. Moore as always struck me as a reasonable guy I would expect him to refind his motivation.

The most interesting thing about today is that we won with the first choice midfield missing. I am convinced that Maclaren is part of the problem and not the solution for we also had our best period at the end of last season when he was injured.
I have a nagging and perhaps unfair doubt about Ladabie. When he was first at Shrewsbury the fans rated him but once established he was criticised for a poor attitude and poor effort.

I think people are reading too much into it after what's gone before.

I thought Moore performed and worked as hard as ever today and certainly chased things down.

It's just being read differently now after all that's gone on.

Enoch Man of the Match for me too!

Can't understand the criticism of ITM. Thought the whole team played well Grandison MOTM, Darville 100% better than previous performances. Midfield 3 although makeshift bossed most of the game except the last 10 minutes. Defence deserve pludits as they had very good forwards who never got a sniff. Nice to see a"team" performance and players playing with passion and at times playing some very good football. Thought atmosphere today was as good as it's been in a long time. Well done Les.

skint had to listen to commentary, and I am confused at ITM getting stick......................... I would like to mention another plaer who for me has made a huge differance and should be the bassis for how we do this season............... a clean sheet and commanding performance in Gaol I'm sure has a fantastice effect on the rest of the side,

Collister is one of the best players this season for me. Given an unlikely chance, due to the Neilsen injury and he's picked up the baton and run with it. At times the defence have not given him the safety net a goalkeeper needs to stop him being exposed to too many shots, but today every man jack and child was good for the money in my humble opinion.

The result was no fluke or a bit of luck. Yes they had a 2 or 3 players out for the start with one coming on as a sub, but so did Tranmere.

For me I think the midfield showed character and heart. I still believe Labadie is someone who can come good and Welsh is a gritty player for me with experience.

The big plus is Blanchard being interchnangeable, but I'm now doubting McClaren a bit, purely due to performances from other people like Mendy and Blanchard, not necessarily based on his past performances, so I'd probably be looking to sideline him in favour of others.

I'm actually enthused about the Yeovil away game next week. Yeovil lost 4-0 today and Tranmere can go there and get something.

If they do, thye'll have 8 from 6, which is a points average of 1.33 per game.

Assuming they could maintain that, it's around 61 points a season, which would allow for one or two slip-ups, given they'd need 50, maybe 48 bare minimum to survive.

Quality result that puts them back on track for staying up and I think good for another 2-3 places at least, maybe more.

what a fantastic performence, the commitment was superb, all of the players were man of the match.just shows that when you pick the right players in the positions that there comfortable in, and the right formation with the right tacktics what we can play like.is it me or did the midfield look stronger and more commited today without welsh and mclaren.parry has to leave these two no chumps out.

Seems like we have some useful players who gave their all bar an odd one ?
I think that having an assistant manager is showing. Les needed someone to confer with as KIng did with Moore.
It is heartening to get that result but I want to see a brace scored.

A very good performance and hard fought win against one of the top teams in this league.

For me the whole team gave their all and i cant understand how ITM is getting stick at all he was his usual totally committed self.

Collister had a really good game and made a couple of really good saves.

The defence was solid today darville had a decnet game cresswell play well grandison was good and goodison again was outstanding.

The midfield really got stuck in Blanchard had a really good game breaking up their attacks Fraughan & Mendy showed some good touches and added some creativity.

The attack showed up well got stuck in and gave their all.

A very good win and excellant performance, when we played the ball on the floor we looked a preety decent team

Thank god our entire midfield was injured.

The new midfeld was 100 times better than the old one. If Les brings the injured players back (with the exception of labadie) he wants lynching.

i'm with you on this, as i've said before a, midfield that battled as if their lives depended on it, parry cannot change the midfield, if anyone does have a chance of getting into the team its labadie. welsh and mclaren should not get back into the team, 2 poor players, they don't battle and they are not creative.

I think that's a little harsh on Welsh myself. I think he does give a lot of commitment at times, but if it's deemed by Les that sidelining him is a more prudent thing, then that's his right and it will be accepted by me.
