Jermaine Beckford 13

Jermaine Beckford 65
Attendance: 8,346
Weather Report
Not too cold a night considering the spring weather is yet to fully arrive although at half-time standing around it did feel bitter down between the Main Stand and the Kop near the good old Food Van!
Crowd
8,346 fans were at the game with the away side filling the Cowshed Stand almost to capacity. There was also a decent turnout from the Tranmere fans for what was Rovers' highest home attendance of the season (almost 1000 more than at the Wolves FA Cup game in early January - the original reason why this game was postponed).
Referee Watch
Mr Rob Shoebridge - Last refereed Rovers in their 2-1 hone win over Leeds United last season but sadly for the home fans there was no repeat of that this time.
Seemed to annoy both sets of fans on different occasions for missing handballs and the odd foul but rightly booked Leeds's Becchio for diving and on the whole had a good game.
Best Moment
I suppose the best moment of the game was the goal from John Welsh which looked for a while as if it had given Rovers a chance of salvaging something from the game after Leeds had taken a quickfire 2-0 lead.
Worst Moment
Any of the Leeds goals and the manner in which they were conceded by the Rovers defence but I guess the second goal from the penalty spot was the killer despite Rovers getting back into the game shortly afterwards.
Tranmere Man of the Match
John Welsh - On a day when the back four all had poor individual and collective performances and the front three also failed to really impress, it was the performance of John Welsh in the centre of midfield which stood out most and he also scored Rovers only goal of the game.
Connections
Rovers Captain Ian Thomas-Moore is a former Leeds United player whilst Andy Robinson and goalkeeper David Martin who were both not involved in this game are former players with Tranmere, Martin having been on loan at Prenton Park earlier this season.
Rovers Fans
The Rovers fans really tried their best to make themselves heard over the equally loud noise coming fromthe Cowshed End but as the game progressed and Rovers' hopes of getting anything faded, the crowd failed to ever really get going again to the same extent as in the opening minutes of the game.
Leeds United Fans
Made themselves heard from the off and having produced the best away attendance seen at Prenton Park so far this season, they also produced the most impressive noise for some time at that end of the Stadium.
Summary
Having perhaps unexpectedly won on Saturday at home to in-form Southampton, defeat tonight did not seem so much of a disaster against a far superior and much more expensively assembled side. Rovers also still sit four points clear of the relegation on the same amount of games played as those below them.
Entertainment Value
Well the game had goals but unfortunately four of them went to the away side and Rovers never really did themselves any justice on the night. 4-1 seemed a harsh scoreline in one sense but Leeds did deserve to win the game and some of their play and the third goal in particular were excellent.
