By Matthew Jones July 2 2009 Tranmere Rovers fans today finally recieved some good news as Ian Moore agreed a new two-year contract at Prenton Park - a move which many Rovers Fans thought may not happen after his father Ronnie was harshly sacked last month as Manager.
After yesterday's disappointing news regarding the departure of midfielder Steven Jennings to Motherwell, following both Antony Kay and Ben Chorley in rejecting new contracts at Prenton Park, Tranmere fans have today recieved some welcome news as striker Ian Moore agreed to extend his stay on the Wirral.
Following the departure of father, Ronnie, in early June, it had been expected that Moore would leave the club, but today the experienced striker has agreed a new two-year contract with the club, keeping him at Prenton Park until 2011.
Moore began his career with Rovers, where he progressed through the youth academy, before making a big money move on to Nottingham Forest.
He had further spells with West Ham, Stockport and Burnley before joining Leeds United, as he played in the Premier League and Division One after leaving the Wirral, as well as representing England at U-21 level.
Moore returned to Prenton Park on January 31st 2008 after beginning his career with the club, joining on a free transfer from Hartlepool United, and he made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against Leeds.
Last season, Moore was the club's most prolific striker, netting 11 goals in 50 appearances, playing both on the right-wing and in attack.
He was a central figure for Rovers, and after the recent news with regards to players departing, this is some welcome and happy news, at last, for the Tranmere fans.
New Tranmere Manager John Barnes told the Tranmere Rovers Official Website.....
"I'm delighted Ian has decided to stay at the Club. He is a very experienced player who is a proven goal scorer. I look forward to working with him, and the rest of the squad, in pre-season training."
Ian added...
"I've really enjoyed my time back at Tranmere and am happy to have signed a new contract at the Club. I'm looking forward to the new season and hopefully we will push for promotion."
Can't say I'm particularly chuffed really - striker is the one position we do have the numbers - a difference maker would help but Moore isn't that. I wanted Curran to get first go at being the partner to bas but that's not going to happen now.
At least my Yellow Wig Bet is definitely on now he's stayed...
If Ian Moore reaches the 20 Goals mark (League and Cup) for the season I will wear my Yellow Wig to the game after he succeeds in doing it - a safe bet if ever there was one!!

Don't think its all that good news. Hes the one player I thought we could afford to lose and is massively overrated. Hes slow of the mark and not good enough. I'd have rather Gornell or Curran got a look in.
He was our leading goalscoring striker last year. He has great intelligence and his finishing is outstanding. I didn't rate him at all this time last year, but his performances last season completely changed my opinion of him around, I can only say I'm delighted.
he isn't the player he once was, he is also not pacey enough to play out wide. HOWEVER he's the best finisher in our squad by a long shot if you ask me. so he'll do for now, but i'd play him right up top with the big fella.
